Ex-plod car?

Featured Replies

Hi,

If you've read my introduction post you'll see I'm new around here and just got me an Octi vRS 1 yesterday. I just wondered what the SH details were for ex-Plod cars? Mine says originally sold to Interleasing and then subsequently serviced by Swansea Skoda upto about 100k. The reason i ask is my car had (already removed!) an aerial on the front of the roof SDC10075.jpg

and i wasn't sure if it was an aerial for a Plod radio or just an antique hands free aerial? I would have thought the Police carried out their own servicing/repairs?

Thanks in advance,

Col.

all the police cars round our way go to main dealers for servicing

Ex job cars (traffic) sometimes still have the calibrated speedo still in them, instead of the OEM one??

That aerial certainly looks plod related tbh.

Does the car have holes drilled in the dash?

Is the mileage really high?

If you put it on a dyno has it mysteriously lost 20bhp?

If so then I expect it's ex-plod!

This what i thought... is ex-plod a bad thing? I've seen one ('54 reg silver vRS) that was horrendous - half the plastics missing, poor body repairs (and i mean POOR!) even still had the bracket for the siren on the bumper reinforcer....

Depends on the force I think, some of them took better care of their Mk1s than others, but one of my mates works at the local nick and what he's told me about their old Mk1s they used to have I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

Oh here we go with the cynics :wonder: I have an ex plod car from derbyshire police no holes in the dash or roof mileage was only 96k.... it was a little rough ie interior dirty.... but a good valet and a polish from a mate and she was as good as new B) i have all the service history and it's second to none all done by main dealer ;)

Ok some forces may abuse them but there are the good ones and if you find an ex police car dealer 90% of them only deal with the good one's the rest go to auction! :|

so please do your homework before you jump on the band wagon ;)

I can only find 2 small holes just in front the gearstick. Overall general condition;- I'm really suprised as in no way does it look like its done 139k, ok gearknobs a bit worn but thats it. Overall paint and body work is superb and appears to have been generally well cared for with no signs of any panel replacement. Its seen some paint on the front bumper, bonnet and osr qtr but these have been done to a very good standard and i'm not suprised to find a car of this age has had to have something done...

Overall, even if it is ex-Police I'm still well chuffed with it, especially considering how much it was... ;)

on a side note, Whats the best way/thing to clean the centre sections of the seats? Does regular car upholstery cleaner do the trick or are we talking wet-vac?

Autoglym interior shampoo does a good job, 'George' (Numatic) does even better.

mines ex plod and in great condition, interior is spotless and the bodyworks in decent nick, people get very wary but at least you knows its always had anything its needed and always genuine bits, mines just lacking the service history to back it up

so please do your homework before you jump on the band wagon ;)

I'm not saying they're all bad but there was a popular misconception on Briskoda a couple of years ago that buying an ex police VRS was always going to be a great idea because of the amount of care and attention that is lavished on them in terms of servicing etc. You have to look carefully at the cars and how they've been run by the local force before you buy.

There is a dealer not a million miles from here that does nothing but sell ex -fuzz cars, they include that fact in there title so presumably they see it as a positive. Most police cars are silver unless its an unmarked car, any additional wiring behind front grill that once powered the strobes?

Nothing! I even checked the wiring for the headlamps to see if it had been altered for the alternate flash... - like I said the other one I saw still had the bracket on the bumper reinforcer for the siren. Also, my speedo does not say its been calibrated like the other one did... I may just call the dealer and ask who the owner was at that time? BTW, Do the 'Federale' lease their cars through Interleasing?

It could have been an Ambulance officers car as they used to use VHF (It's a VHF sized whip on that aerial!).

I have also thought maybe Fire? Like a 'Head Honchos' car or something? - They still use red, new Octavia vRS'S here in sunny Glos....
