Tick over revs

Featured Replies

I have new Ocvavia (new Dec) 1.6CR diesel "S"

I have found that when i am moving out of gear the revs drop to 10 on rev counter and when i actually come to a stop the revs drop to about 8 on rev counter. Recently i have noted that the revs sometimes stick at 10 and i cannot lower them ever by multiple plips on the gas pedal. It will continue until like that indefinately until i turn engine off and on again and then it is back to about 8 on rev counter and its fine for a couple of days and it will start again.

All a little odd, although the car appears to drive perfectly during this period.

Any idea what would cause this? and is it anything to worry about?

Regards

Kyle

Hi, I have a vRS 2.0 cr that does the same, I believe the car is meant to hold the revs until you come to a stop with the new cr engines, dont know why but they do it. As regards the engine running at 1000rpm you will find this is part of the Diesel Particulate Filter's (DPF) normal regeneration cycle ,as are the cooling fans running like mad when you switch off sometimes after a short journey. Once the cycle is finished the car will return to its 750-800 rpm idle speed. My dealer's service manager didnt even know about this when I first asked about it, only found out by doing a bit of research on the net myself. Really all this should be explained on delivery thus preventing worried owners thinking there is something wrong. If you are still concerned take the car back to the dealers and ask them.
