Rear Boot Release Options

Featured Replies

I own a W-Reg Fabia, and typical with most of the earlier models, it has quite a few electronic niggles...

One is the rear boot release, the button just above the license plate doesn't work meaning that I have to persistently use the manual release by the driver's door. From what I gather, it is linked to the door sensors, as it does not recognise that the doors are open it refuses to work. I have two enquiries:

1. As none of the door sensors seem to work, my local dealer seemed to think that it was a more general problem, rather than the door sensors themselves. Is there a fuse that deals with this issue that might have gone? If so, does anyone know which one?

2. As a shortcut round this problem, could I buy a key with a boot release button on it and use that to work it? None of the sets that came with the car have one, but could I get one from a Dealership and get round the problem that way?

Thanks.

If the car has just been unlocked, and no doors opened, then it should work as the door/ignition thing hasn't kicked in yet, preventing it from working.

1) Does the interior light go off when the doors are shut? Or does the car beep if the lights are on and the door (drivers only I think) is open?

If yes to those, most likely that the door sensors are working ok and the issue lies elsewhere.

2) Does the car have remote locking in the first place, or just a standard key? Either way, to get the keys coded is quite expensive, not sure of exact price, but it was £90 at 'cost' for our Ford Focus IIRC.

It doesn't sound right to me - as far as I know you don't have the option of opening the boot in different ways. Lower spec models (without central locking) have the release by the drivers door, the others don't have the release by the drivers door and can only be opened by using the remote to unlock it and then the button on the boot to open it.
