Skoda Felicias of 2000

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

When you look to the wikipedia site on Skoda Felicia, there seem to have been built only 50kW engines in 2000. Is this true?

I wonder because I am about to buy a Skoda Felicia 1.3, built in 2000; 40000km, newly painted, new tires and rims, new battery, Webasto Hollandia 400, incl. a radio-cd & tow ball for 2900€ (2559£).

come to the uk and buy one, considerably cheaper over here, you'd pay no more than £1500 for a good one over here!

^^^What he said!!!

ditto, thats silly money, you can buy an early Fabia for less.

Not in LHD.... Nice easy conversion though.

the grommets are all present lol

No, they're not. But it's not the worst conversion to do, I've done an RHD > LHD one, and aside from needing a dash and rack, the rest was reasonable, although swapping the entire loom was not an easy option, so I extended the column/fusebox wiring which took a couple of evenings to do, plus of course swapping all the mountings over for column, fusebox, etc.

it was the best thing I could get over here for that money; early Fabia's seem to cost more over here, even with 3 times as many miles (mine will have 25000).

the same skoda for 1800€ had rusty rims and skin, no modern "easy" steering wheel, and on the inside it looked like someone had held pigs in it ... etc.

sorry for my poor English,

Greetings from Ghent, Belgium

Think you're right about the 50 kW. The alternative was the 1.6 VW engine, 55kW

€2900 sounds a bit expensive, even when I compare with Swedish prices (considerably higher than in the UK). You should be able to find a similar car here for €2000 - €2500 - and LHD too :)

The repaint should make me a bit suspicious. Why a repaint? Serious rust issues? Collision damages?

Vautrus Your English is fine.

The 1.6 is only a little more powerful and a LOT less fuel efficient; I'd stick with the 1.3 every time.

And why assume he needs to do a LHD conversion? there are plenty of LHD cars in the UK, driving around without problems; and I have seen more than a few RHD cars out and about in Europe, with French, Dutch and Belgium reg plates

There was a scratch from front to back on the right side, because the lady who drove the car before me scraped a wall - yet the mechanics were not damaged - two new doors and a frontpiece have been installed.

I got one year warranty, so I hope there will be no problems there. It's the fifth car (all Skoda Felicias :-) our family got from that car seller, no complaints about the previous four.

25% on insurance is a good reason.

He's in Belgium tho, might be a different situation over there; and as I said, seen plenty of LHD here and RHD drive over there.

Besides, the £1,000 or so he would save on buying here would pay for quite a few years of 25% extra!! On my last quote, that 25% extra would equate to about £40!!

Have you actually driven an LHD car over here for any length of time?

Not for a while.

SO overtaking is more difficult; how often are you going to overtake while driving a Felly??

It's more than just overtaking, there are lots of driving situations where the lack of vision that you have in an LHD car in a RHD country means you are at a disadvantage.

As for overtaking, depends how you drive.... ;)

Overtaking is the only time I felt there is a problem, but I do not wish to argue, I think it is down to personal preferences; I feel perfectly comfortable driving my RHD around Europe

Also, what are the Belgian regs on registering a foreign car permanently?

If you import a car younger than six months and with less than 6000 km (about 4500 miles?), you have to pay Belgian tax (21%) in addition to the British tax.

25% on insurance is a good reason.

I drove an LHD car in the UK for 18 months, car was imported from Dubai. Total loading on insurance for me was 0%, you just need the right company.

Hello,

I have just driven my car to my home town, and I am really happy with the car.

Everything goes very fine! Gear changes go very smoothly, feetwork goes better than my parent's Felicia (same type, same year, 6000km less).

The roof facility makes but little sound on the highway.

And I've found a nice "on the road" cd in the cd player of the previous owner :-)

Good! Glad it's worked out OK. I've lost count of the number of (original) CDs I've left in cars I've sold - one was by a mate of mine, limited edition pressing. I've not had the guts to tell him I've lost it yet!

Year 2000 was the 'run out ' year. They sold - in UK- two models of 1.3. One a Classic and one a Popular. I bought a Classic with 50 Kw or 68bhp to me.

The popular was 40kw or 54bhp. They sold the diesel as well which is 47kw.

Mine never got the mpg quoted in the brochure. these cars are not very economical but simply made and lack modern safety features.

Perhaps different options were available on the continent, but diesel is generally more popular there due to tax policies.
