So post ash details...

So then all you detailers, what are you going to do about the abrasive debris in the ash cloud.

Do I correctly predict a sell out of Snow Foam and if so Should I invest in shares?

call me dumb! haha that wont really happen will it?!

Wouldn't worry about it.

If it does get down to our level and we get a layer of dust on our cars, just rinse down and wash as normal, no snow foam required if you haven't got any.

I am doing SWEET F A! :D

This cloud is at like 4 to 7 miles up and for the life of me it "covering southern England" today has hardly been blocking out the glorious sunshine! I think 1,000,000 times more paint harming dust is simply blown about off the verges by passing cars & lorries, than is likely to fall out the sky from this volcano.

Propotion blown all of out. Rearrange :D

I respect the air safety controls in place if the cloud can bring down a plane from 30,00 feet, but I have no concerns whatsoever about ash on my car.

We've cancelled most hotels for anyone flying out this week in my group at work, so I guess we're not expecting things to have recovered.

I'd make sure you have travel insurance that covers the "act of god" scenario if you can.

Hi,

well covered with the insurance but do so need some sun. Looking like a bag of flour :)

I just jet wash mine down first then wash as normal.

It seems to rinse off quite easily.

I'd be quite careful about washing the dust off the car at the moment. My octy and my mate's Porsche are covered in very fine, gritty dust, so much so that to the touch it feels like very fine wet and dry sandpaper or shark skin!! This is not normal dust!

If you look at it closely, especially on the windscreen you can see that there are microscopic shimmering, glinting flecks in it. This is probably a silica type compound from the ash that can be quite abrasive.

I'm in two minds whether I should wash this weekend or not. The ash cloud is now blowing the other way so things should improve. We need some good heavy rain to wash the dust out of the sky. As mentioned earlier, a good long hosing down to soften the grit and then a jet washing should remove enough to safely wash down with a soft mit etc.

Edited: because what I wrote made it sound like I had a Porsche as well as my mate. I clearly do not have a Porsche and I am not a hairdresser either.

well it's been lashing down all day so that should help

Yup. I've noticed that too. I've not touched mine so far. I'm going to give it its first very careful post-ash rinse, pressure washer blast, 2bm wash tomorrow.

It rained quite a lot last night and late this morning, so after lunch. . .

I tackled both the Octy and the Furby (well it was just going to be my Octavia until SWMBO poked her head out the door and said - what about mine?)

With the rain dampening things down a lot and loosening the dust, I pressure rinsed both cars, then used the (a bit crappy, but ok-ish) Bosch foamer attachment to cover both with foam. Let this soak in for a good 10 mins whilst I had a cuppa. Rinsed down both cars and started on mine. Even after a good soak and blast, there was still a lot of crud all over the car so I was extra careful and used 2x super soft chenile mitts, alternating them as the other soaked in my 2x (ex- nappy) buckets . . . then (yawn . . . .zzzz.z.z.zz.z.) I rinsed again, then I tackled the wheels, then I tackled the door and boot shuts with my detailing brush....z.z.z.z.z.zzzz.. then I rinsed again etc etcetc. After a quick dry off with a microfibre cloth, I gaybar'ed the whole car using pure bendermonkey jizzjuice as a lube. After the whole car was complete I gave a quick wash again and a rinse followed by drying off with real human skin chamois leather. The same process was followed on the furby.

Stubborn tar spots were treated using WD40 and a very soft cloth (might have been old PJ's - quite fluffy and lovely) and the aid of my thumbnail, which I hasten to add is quite black now. This area was washed down again and then re-gaybar'ed.

Polish (AG SRP) was applied using my arm and hand which was holding an applicator pad. This was then allowed to dry and polished off using a bright yellow microfibre cloth. (Yellow cloths are the ones that make cars super shiney. Use the Blue ones for a more matt finish)

The whole process took 4.75 hours and my arms and back are fecked. The results can't be seen as it is now dark and tomorrow it will all be dirty again. I still have the rubber trim and tyres/wheels to do.

Enjoying a some nice cold beers to ease the aching back and shoulders.... Now why weren't the kids out helping me???

:giggle::rofl:

haha! I guess I need some yellow cloths...

I'm doing nothing, it rained yesterday so the car looks mint again!
