Greenline drivers

Getting used to my Greenline now. Racking up the miles and average around 65mpg driving normally i.e not hugging trees or driving in the slipstream of lorries.

I have one niggle with the car. Some mornings the engine sounds like its got this low frequency drone which doesnt go away even at higher revs. Then all of a sudden its gone and all back to normal, smooth running all round. I did wonder if it has some kind of weird warm up cycle as its only from cold that it does this and is gone after about 10 minutes. Maybe something to do with the EGR system when its cold, beats me.

I think I made the right move in getting a greenline for the miles I do. Time will tell if its a reliable car.

I know that drone! Yes mine does that too but not always when cold, just put it down to the characteristics of the car, could just be the plastics panels on the bottom of the car and the air flows. I couldn't find anything wrong when looking it over but did give the plastic engine covers a good firm push down too. One of my cover clips at the front is already broken but I can't see this making a lot of difference.

Your right, its not just when cold. It sort of comes and goes but mainly its when the car is neither hot nor cold, sort of in the middle range.

The drone is odd. Its always there at a specific rpm even when warm. About 1450 to 1700 rpm. Sometimes I knock it up or down a gear just to stay out that range. I had it on warm up only this morning and there was a very distinct and suddden end to the drone as I was sitting at 70. (Normally its not there at all once you go above 1750 rpm).

When I have my first service I might ask the garage what it could be. My money is on the exhaust gas recirculation valve. The engine mapping is different for the Greenline so maybe a standard TDI doesnt do it. Skoda really should have kept the standard gearbox and added a sixth gear. Would have made the car much more driveable round town. Maybe it gets better as the mile rack up and it loosens up.

100 mile round trip today.....71mpg average driving like a member of the green party.
