VW Golf R-line gearknob in Octy?

Featured Replies

Really like my new pre-FL Octavia, apart from one thing - the gear knob. I don't like the shape or the chrome effect plastic (it's the Elegance leather one).

There don't seem to be many alternatives available, however knowing the similarity between the VAG lines, I wondered if a R-line gearknob for a MK4 Golf/Bora would fit?

I've got a Bora 1.8T which I retrofitted with the 6 speed version of this: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=3796&xSec=142

Anyone tried installing something similar in their Octavia? I searched but couldn't find anything.

Ta :)

Lol, was thinking of this last night myself! Would like to see what others have done too :-)

Christ, that's expensive! I remember buying a new one for my Merc from the dealer - it was about £21. No reason for a gear knob to cost £100 !!

How about a standard A3 or A4 gear knob?

Anyone else searched ebay for them and thought "they look a bit flacid, albeit, unexcited"?

IMHO thats a ridiculous amount for a gearknob. I've always used Momo knobs on my vehicles and like to add a little weight to the shift with a solid metal one but I reckon £50 is the limit! I've even cut down gear sticks by say 1/2" to shorten the throw but you have to be careful you don't mess up the amound of reach available.

I'm assuming its a reasonably standard operation and I have no doubt somebody on this or the Golf forums will have done a swap.

They do not come just as the gearknob

It comes with the cover around it too

It is the all singing all dancing gearknobs

Plus they are from the dealers too , so you just know it is going to be expensive :(

I have an audi s-line knob in mine. I also could not stand the factory vrs knob - horrible shape and looks very tacky with the fake chrome.

The audi knob was a very easy swap and the perforated leather matches the vrs steering wheel, so it actually looks more "factory" than the original..

Hi there..that Audi gearknob likes very good. Can you tell me how you did the replacement? Where did you buy the knob from and was it easy to do?

Thanks.
