Octy VRs Mk1 - Driveshaft, HELP!

Featured Replies

My nearside CV boot split so today i went to get a new 'un.

Stocked up ready to go and i cannot for the life in me remove the driveshaft from the hub!!!!!!

Two of us have been on it for four hours and got NOWHERE.

Is there more securing the shaft into the the hub than the main nut visible if you were to look in the centre of the brake disc?

This is getting desperate.

Thanks.

So you've undone and removed the hub nut (which are uber tight anyhow)?

Assuming this is the case, sounds like you need a bit more movement. Undo the retaining plate off the bottom of the control arm and free the bottom of the hub assembly from the lower control arm. The driveshaft is splined and simply slides into the hub bearing assembly. Maybe a bit of corrosion in there. If you haven't already, put some WD40 in and put the hub assembly outwards (it'll pivot about the upper strut mount). You'll probably find you'll need to undo one end of the ARB link from the strut or bar itself, again to free up movement.

You're next issue will be to undo the spline M10 drive shaft to diff bolts, not easy when working under the car. Good luck

No nothing attaching it if you removed the nut. Have you removed ARB drop link and wishbone balljoint as IIRC there is little space to allow the drive shaft to go backwards, so you need to have clearance to pull hub towards you enough to get hub side of drive shaft out. It could also be that the bearing may be tight or collapsed on the shaft Last time I did this I loosened the nut, left it on and then got a block of wood and a lump hammer and gave it a few taps.

Jez, I what soak the Drive shaft end overnight with WD40 and see in the morning with a fresh pair of hands.

I did this before on the turbo downpipe nuts and it worked.

plus gas or similar would be better than wd40 if you have any.
