Do Uprated Exhuasts Make Much Diffrence To TDi Engines

Just a general question really, may also be usefull to other people. All the cars ive ever owned have always had an uprated stainless steel exhuast system, now the diffrence in performance was quite evident usually at higher rpm, but these were all on turbo petrol, or N/A petrol engines. Because a petrol and a diesel work diffrently does the diesel benifit from this type of upgrade.

I doubt for standard road use you would gain anything worthwhile, unless you went the whole hog and chipped it...matching the exhaust to the new breathing/fuelling regime etc. I would run it on a dyno to get the best out of it. All the specialist companies can give some advice about exhaust systems and best chip, state of tune to use. Skoda has made sure it's performing on par as it is for road use in standard form.

From what I have read, it does not do much in adding power/performance to a standard (not mapped) car. However the lower back pressure may mean the turbo will spin up faster, therefore reducing lag. It obviously it may produce more noise than the standard system. See here TD! FAQ - Exhausts. As diesels are only tested for smoke, you can remove the cat for extra performance.
