Adding an autochanger

Featured Replies

Having just bought a nice 2006 Lemon Yellow VRS TDI, I see that it only has a single CD jobby in it.

I have a couple of 6-disk autochangers in my "stores" that came out of a (1) Octavia, and (2) a VW Passat - both the same unit.

Can the Fabia's stereo drive this Autochanger, or do I need to get the specific one for that?

I also have a Symphony head unit out of an Octavia (which goes with the autochanger), so if I can't use that autochanger with the Fabia's stereo, then its up for grabs!

I have a double-din Blaupunkt Travelpilot navigation stereo jobby out of a Passat, and might try that in the Fabia..... I don't think it needs the "K" wire (thus doesn't need programming into the ECU) Now that will drive the 6-disk autochangers that I have.

Any ideas?

The changers should work with the Fabia's Headunit as long as they have the rectangle connection on the little lead at the back. .. but you'll be hard pushed to find the proper mounting gear for under the passenger seat as it's discontinued now.

Some people have got the cubby hole for under the seat and cut the back out to mount the changer inside it. I think the vRS has the cubby as standard anyway.

You'll also need a VW oem cd changer cable. About £25 for the autoleads one. It'll need running under the carpet, not as bad as it sounds as can be done around the bottom of the passenger door. I think there is already hole under the passenger seat for the lead to pop through.

Thanks for that Rob.

I'll have a look and see what I have.

Good call on the Autoleads cable - I deal with Armour Automotive, I'll get one from them!!

Rob.
