Squeaky suspension

Featured Replies

when i go over speed bumps, and through the pot holes (that are unavoidable around here!) what seems to be the front suspension creaks, i have seen a few threads about this but cant seem to find any about where to spray the silicone grease onto?

Most likely to be front anti roll bar bushes. Frequent problem in that the mounting point

for the bushes includes a plastic sleeve around the bar. When the bar inevitably begins

to rust, this expands and cracks the plastic sleeve and so it begins to creak. Grease in the bush

may help but will not be the complete answer!

Mine has just started to do this too, I have not look up any threads about it yet but I would be interested in seeing what people say

The simple fix is to remove the plastic sleeves and bin them, then fit the new type 17mm bushes to the bar. Solved it for me and many others.

Just changing the bushes for new ones doesn't do anything, and greasing them will only work for a few days at a time.

The more expensive fix is to fit a new roll bar. I deemed that a bit OTT, since the bar itself is fine really.

got part numbers for the bushes and the kit required to do this?

Good call mate! mine has started doing this again, had a new arb and bushes couple years back now but is back again squeaking pretty much all the time! :wonder:

What are these new 17mm bushes you speak off? Do you have a part number thanks.

Ok just done a quick search and found part number for 17mm front arb bush the one to use without the sleeves- part no- 1JO 411 314 S

I hope this is correct.

Ha! Yeah it was me that originally posted those numbers in the sticky! I found out the hard way though by buying 2 sets and measuring them.

ARB bush for 19mm bar (20mm hole for use with sleeve):

1J0 411 314 P

ARB bush for 19mm bar (17mm hole for use without sleeve):

1J0 411 314 S

If you're running without a sleeve, then you want the 'S' version.

Yeah thanks mate nice write up too, mine is squeaky like mad im pretty sure it's the arb everything else is fairly new droplinks etc.

what are poly bushes such as super pro like compared with OE 17mm without sleeves?

are OE ones more firmer and cause less creaking?

The poly one's will be firmer, both should do the same job with the sleeves removed though.

God you lot are anal about these things lol

Mine have been making a noise for about 2 years now I just get under with a can of silicone spray, done them this morning infact

Live with it, they only start again

BTW Superpro polys are worse than standard imo, but the standard ones now come coated in some stuff so may be better.

Ive got SuperPRO ARB bushes and mine are fine, just make sure you put lots of the greese on there.

Such a slacker Fatty! Just get the sleeves removed. I promise that standard 17mm bushes running on a naked bar don't squeak, as it's the sleeves that squeak. Think of the money it will save you in silicone spray!

I did do what you're doing for a few months, but I got tired of it, and I am an anal freak (not in the dodgy porn way).

Don't knock anal till you've tried it (giving not receiving)!

I am a slacker lol, it's not the first time I've been told that you know.

I had the bar changed under warranty a few years back, so have the newer bar, does that one have the sleeves ???

I didn't think it did ???

i admit it is slightly anal but it was just the fact of finding out whether it was a problem that was gonig to cost to fix or whether it happens to most cars, thanks for all the replys ;)

Funny you say that mate erm..... cause not sure if mine has got the sleeves? only put on couple years back and i did hear that they come without the sleeves now.

Oh! Well if you already have the new type of bar then you should have the new 'S' type bushes already too.

Not sure what to say now! The whole point in the revised bar is that it fixed the creaking issue.

Anyway can you confirm the part number of the bar you had fitted?

If it's creaking and you are 100% certain that it's the new sleeveless bar, then I guess all you can try is new bushes.

Mine doesn't creak anyway!! :moon:

Christ knows lol

It was done in the dealers

It's deffo the newer bar though. I think mine needs striping and re doing with decent grease as coppaslip washes away after a while

Just looked at the invoice the part number for the arb is - 1J0411305AD and guess what? The bushes are 1J04 113 14S :wonder:

So that anwser's that question, i have the new arb without the sleeves! so why the hell is it squeaky! :S Time for some new bushes maybe?
