Cupra bushes

My methodical approach to replacing the front wishbone bushes has just been blown out of the water.

I'd done all the prep work already, just pop the bushes in and put the wishbone back!

but i just had a phone call from my dad who popped round to my house with the metal he fabricated for me and fitted the cupra bushes into the console, what a nice chap I hear you say!

Did you make sure the hexadecimal hole was flat at the top dad?

What hole? Hexa who!

I’m going to head home from work soon, what are the chances the bushes will be in the right way round with a flat edge at the top completly by accident?

Ouch, you have my sympathies because...

...my dad did something equally daft when we fitted mine!

I left him for 5 mins after we did the first side. In that time, he got the other one in. The flat of the hexagon on the bottom was horizontal, all hunky dory. Except the entire bush was the wrong way round in the console :dull: I did tell him about this...

Cue an hour of rigging up all kinds of pikey home-made pulling devices to get the damn thing back out again!

lol, i have this to look foward to. Could you not use a big allen key device to spin it round?

Cast metal bush casing in a cast metal bush console, with a very tight interference fit...good luck is all I'll say! :S

ok, i have an update, my dad got them in pretty much bang on which was lucky. Unfortunately he put them in from the front, as the cupra bush isnt as wide as the normal one it has to go in from the rear!

If not the front of the wishbone wont go in the front thingymajig?!?

I spent this evening fighting with a ratchet strap to push the wishbone into the rear console but with the bush flush to the front instead of the rear it wasnt easy!

the strap is split half way across and i had to use my feet to get enough leverage on the ratchet...

One more side to go too...

If i did it again i'd just take the console out, its only a few more screws apparently.

Hearing about all the confusion about what way up to fit them and what type are

the best option etc. Is really putting me off doing this job.

Looks like I'll be lining my friendly VAG specialists pocket yet again....
