Alloy wheel help please

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, ive had my wheel balancing checked on my octy vrs tdi (57-plate) and been told that my

front passenger side alloy is twisted and distorted. They reckon it can't be repaired and i'll need a new one. I did

see it on the balancing machine and it looked a mess! Skoda have quoted me £225.47 incl vat but excl fitment for 1 new 18" Zenith, so i'll have to pay to get fitted too.

Is this price fair for one of these? and I'm wondering whether or not just to buy a complete new set of aftermarket alloys without tyres as mine are ok all round?

If a full new wheel package is the way to go, which alloys look the best/non-chavvy on the octy vrs?

Also, please could somebody tell me the correct PCD and ET fitment for the octy vrs tdi pd?

Could do with some quick feedback and advice please as i've got to get this sorted asap!

Many thanks.

I stand to be corrected here, but for aftermarket wheels, you should be looking for 5x112 ET45-50.

If it was me, I'd go for BBC CH rims, but they ain't cheap.

The price from Skoda seems a bit steep for one OEM rim, have you tried Ebay at all to source a single wheel ?

Cheers for the response, yep had a look at this. Bit cheaper like you say but if it aint right, its a lot of messing about for £40 diff.

What do you think of these wheels:

honest opinions please,

Cheers

New style RS4 rims are another that suit the Octavia really well, but I've got a 5 year old Octavia 2.0TDI and I would be weary about

putting replica rims on it, they are very heavy and generally not that great quality.

However, considering you have an OEM rim that is out of shape, this is probably hard to believe.

Do you have any idea what happened to the buckled rim ?

The Ebay wheel may not be much of a saving, but atleast you know its new and is coming from a dealer......

Yes, i know you only get what you pay for. Probably should just get the o.e. rim and be done with it. I plan to move the car on

in less than 2 years anyway and so its probably best 2 keep it o.e..

I think its probably pothole damage. I've dodged most, but you can't help catching one or two and one must have got me!

I know what you mean, its a nightmare avoiding the dam things these days !

I hit a pot hole on a wet night a number of years ago resulting in a new wheel & tyre, plus with it being a ford, rapid fit did the

work along with checking the tracking..... Car was never the same after that, if only I'd knew about 4 wheel alignment at the time !

Yep its a pain when you've got to do a 90-mile round trip everyday to work including a drive out into the middle of nowhere!

I might have solved my problem anyway. I'll post an update as soon as i've had it confirmed and done!

I've seen wheels shaped like 50p and you can sure straighten them back just takes a little time.My view get it repaired.

Sorry to be picky, but I'm assuming you mean BBS CH rims, unless the British Broadcasting Corporation are now producing alloys, as well as crap TV programmes :giggle:

I've got 4 sets of wheels for my Octy. B):D

If your zenith is knackered, I'd just take the opportunity now to buy some more interesting wheels (BBS or whatever), maybe 2nd hand from ebay / edition38 classifieds so you don't stand to lose too much money on them if you want to sell them on later. Then, keep an eye out for a single zenith for sale 2nd hand to complete your original set. They do come up.

try central skoda in birmingham - last time i was in they had vrs alloys for sale at £150-£200 ish (each) cant remember the correct price but they were i think having a clear out at a discount price. again dont know if they were 17 or 18 inch rims though.

Well chaps, as i said earlier, i was working on a solution to my twisted alloy and ive sorted it.

I managed to speak to a very helpful guy at Horton Skoda, Matt, and it appears they've come up with the goods. They had a

virtually brand new alloy (18" Zenith) spare from a new car that had been scratched on a transporter. I explained my

situation and they offered it me for £120 + £11 courier delivery incl vat. Now, obviously living near bolton i live a long way from Hortons

so the helpful chap took several photos of the alloy and sent them to my email and the alloy was as described; it had a tiny scratch which you can hardly

notice, otherwise the alloy was brand new. I was happy to go ahead and so bought it. Should arrive by next tues.

I couldn't fault this service and i've managed to save myself a few quid. Good stuff Horton's and keep up the good work.

Problem solved.

£225 for a factory new 18" alloy sounds quite good to me. I recently bought a new 16" VW alloy as spare and it was £289.

£120 with a scratch?! I'd have wanted it cheaper than that. At least you're sorted.

Yeah i know it sounds bad, but i've seen the photos of this alloy and it does look mint. As i said, the scratch is tiny.

To be fair, i was struggling to find one of these alloys from a reliable source for less than £180 so if alloy is as described, then i

reckon i've done ok. Lets face it, my other alloys are slightly marked anyway, so it'll match 'em!!
