Wife's ordered an Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

I will join the happy fold after all, when she lets me drive it. After trying one, she was either going to get it as a company car or I was buying one anyway LOL. Don't know when it is coming, but well chuffed nonetheless.

Neither of us really like the Octavia's looks, but the drive compared with the nearest that were on the list (Golf V TDI 140, Civic Type S) clinched it. A tremendous all rounder.

hi, i would just like to say, officially my octavia vrs is in my husbands name, but i would like to add, i took over the moment i drove it and would now seriously fight him for it.lol

getting the wife out of my vrs is harder than getting money out of her.

i now console myself to the fact that a 1600 polo is ok for getting to work in but nothing more, roll on the weekend so i can have my car back. :(

dont think my hubby will ever get his car back.lol

Welcome to the fold John, you get used to the looks ;) will be waiting to see what mods you perform on it next, watched your scooby transform from midly modded ECu to bleedin superbike slaying monster over the last couple of years on scoobynet :D:D:D

I don't think this one will be modded, I think they are nice as standard as a sensible all rounder. I see the power curves of the remapped ones and don't like what I see for a FWD car, but I've not driven one. Also, it sounds like a mapped car will have to lower the boost and retard the timing when you drive it hard or round a track, which may result in lumpy performance, the turbo is also a bit ornamental in size for serious performance IMHO. Heatsoak anyone? That standard flat wide and low torque curve is nice for metering out the torque in the twisties IMHO. With AWD you can throw 400+ lbft at it and it won't mind and keep pointing broadly where you point it in most conditions. I think standard torque is a case of less is more.... anyone tried a Leon Cupra R? I thought the Octavia was more balanced. Puma is the same, the 1.7 is superbly balanced in all respects, I wouldn't change anything as an all rounder fun small car.

I think turbo installations are a lot more reliable and smooth running 80-90% of their potential peak power on a given octane level.... ie 180 BHP for the Octavia. Otherwise, tuned for peak power, it is bound to be outside the area of sustained thermal efficiency from the point of breathing, turbo size and intercooler.

Welcome over here John. :)

That's two from Scoobynet in one week. :D

Cheers
