Question 1. When I change to second or even third whilst driving at a slower speed the car feels sorts of lumpy which then decrease as the engine builds the revs up.I've been told that it could be carbon deposits on the EGR valve. Is it any easy to clean ?,car is a 1.9 bog standard PD

Question 2. I am going to take the car for it's first overland trip,I am going to sicily where on most autostradas there is no speed limits, well there is but the Italians break them,so will I  ..... anyone knows what's the actual top speed of the 1.9 PD engine

?,the manual states 192km/h,a friend of mine said he saw 210 on an Italian autostarda in a similar car.Do speedos lie that much ?.I will have a GPS so I will know the exact speed I would be doing,I am hoping to crack the 240 mark on the speedo.

You might do actual about 185 real speed and near 200 km speedo.

You are not going to see 240kmh, I would say you will be lucky to break 190 on your GPS.

Answering your first question it could be carbon on the EGR valve, or it could be the fact that, as you say you change into 2nd or 3rd at low speeds, the engine will be at low revs and the lumpiness could be just the individual power pulses as the cylinders fire, the fact that you say the lumpiness decreases as the engine revs build tends to support this answer, what happens if you delay changing up until higher in the rev range, does the problem show itself then? If you are going to give the car some stick on the autostrada then if there is some carbon build up then hopefully that should clear some of it out!!

150mph out of a 1.9pd ? nope, not a chance. Mine has a stage 1 remap and runs on miller ds4 and i'd be surprised if it could manage anything over stock mostly due to the gearing.

besides, why would you want to drive at that speed? it's incredibly stressful on both you and the car, and will hammer your fuel economy and make the likelihood you'll have an accident much greater.

Asking the second question was just for the fact that last year the speedo read a 195km/h on the autostrada and on the gps the maximum speed recorded was 173km/h.just wanted to know whether the octy's speedo is as a liar as the one on the Fabia ...... Anyone got any figures regarding mph/rpm at faster speeds for these engines ..... ?.
