The bush to the right of the pic is split, what does it do and does it matter? My MOT is due in a couple of weeks will I need to get this fixed? Both sides are the same.

Cheers

Mike

thats a wishbone bush, ive replaced mine as the car was awful to drive pulled hard right under acceleration and hard left when letting off. to the point of being scarey to drive, i replaced both wishbones rather than buy just the bushes as i found it easier to replace the lot :giggle::thumbup:

it does often feel a bit funny when going around round abouts so maybe this is it? How much did it set you back to fix? Is it hard to do?

Cheers mate

Mike

i cant remember it was a while ago but not that much to be honest and i did both sides to be safe. its not a hard job just be careful with the drive shaft on the drivers side mine didnt quiet go back in to the gearbox end right causing it to smash the bearings :giggle: . i also got a clunking/ banging noise as they were broke aswell as the horrible driving

I do wonder if the clunking I get is down to this, I just asumed it was the ARB bushes. Think I will book it into a garage to be done.

it could well be these especially if the bushes are gone, mine was all sorted after they were replaced

HTH B)

and its a mot failure like that

If you want to stick to standard bushes,PM me as i have a genuine wishbone for sale and will be easier than changing the bush over.

I need both sides doing mate, I'm going to book it in next week to be fixed, any ideas on what it will set me back.

Depends on which arms you go for. Cheapy aftermarket ones are about £25 complete with bushes and ball joints, Febi Bilstein are about £25 for the arm with bushes plus about another £10 for a ball joint, OEM are around £48 + £20 for the ball joint. No idea on the cost of fitting though as I did mine myself.

The bushes are available on their own, so cheaper than buying a full arm, but you would need to factor in the additional cost of fitting the bush.

NB: Aftermarket arms should probably be considered as disposable items and not to be rebuilt or fitted with OEM bushes as the two may not be compatible. I ordered some Febi arms and ball joints from one of the site sponsors, but was supplied with TruPart complete arms. I was planning on fitting solid TT bushes to these and then just swap them over. However, after 1 week on the car it became apparent that the TruPart arms are made to different tolerances to OEM and could move quite easily on the bush causing odd handling and all kind of clunks and knocks. I've just rebuilt my original arms with another set of TT bushes and Febi ball joints and normal service has been resumed. Had I been supplied with the Febi arms which I had ordered, this may not have happened.

Thanks for the info mate, think I will try and see if the garage will just swap the bushes out for OEM ones.

Cheers again

Mike

Bear in mind that they will still need to remove the arm to replace the bush, so depending on the labour rate and how long they estimate to knock out the old one and press the new one into the arm it may still be cheaper to replace the whole thing.

I'll speak to them and see what they advice, need to MOT the car soon so can't really hang around.

well just got a price from the local garage, £191.06 for supply and fit for both sides, sounds a bit expensive to me. Also asked them to price up rear discs and pads and they quoted £252 WTF :wonder:

just got a quote from UNIT18 and they only want £102 to supply and fit both wishbones  Think I will make a run up there and get them done. One thing they did say they could do instead is fit powerflex bushes to the existing wishbone for the same price.

So do I replace my wishbones with a pattern part or have the powerflex ones? Opinions please

Cheers

Mike

that sounds like a better price  me personally would opt for the powerflex bushes but thats just me ;)

I'd go for OEM TT bushes. They are a solid rubber version of the standard ones, so should improve handling without being as harsh as polyurethane.
