Be interesting to see if any of the "spammers" can take legal action against what is kind of a DDoS attack...

Saw something about this on the bbc website.

Good luck to them!

Apparently this will generate mloads of traffic in combatting spam.....

Hmm...but if most of these companies promote their products by spam, are they really going to be bothered if their website is inaccessible? :rubchin:

Nice idea, but I can't help but thinking generate large quantities of traffic like this is as bad as sending spam. Enforceable legislation would be better IMHO!

Precisely. I think that somewhere mentioned that 3-4 meg a day is what each user will send, and if enough people sign up, it will hit 33TB a day.... I'd rather DoS lycos for that!!!

Once you get enough people using it, how long will it be til someone hacks the lycos client, and redirects all those requests to a legitimate site? :)

The thing i was thinking is if the spammers are getting it done to them, whats to stop them writing similar and doing it to lycos, DoS arent too hard if lycos can do it

Lycos are selling it as each user only requesting 3-4mb a day, so they're trying to spin it as "individual users' actions don't constitute an attack on the spamming website"...

Quite a nice idea though, although given the amount of spam and associated sites, it's an uphill battle. I'd rather see them target the phishing websites, as they can be a real pain for innocent web users....
