Stream Radio Bang

Featured Replies

The other day while driving home my 07 octavia made a massive bang - I absolutely **** myself and honestly thought the car had been hit by lightening (it was during a rainstorm!!) - Only after checking the car for scorch marks and finding identical incidents on Briskoda I realised it was the stream radio. I phoned Skoda UK technical dept who (suspiciously) denied all knowledge. They advised going to my local dealer - the warranty ran out last month and I am not keen on getting gouged for a repair/replacement if it is a common latent defect (also I might trade in the car to them in the near future and don't want to give them an excuse to give me a poor trade in value). Any advice/tales of similar experiences would be greatly appreciated as I am too scared to use the radio in the meantime (not without a change of underwear in the boot).

Cheers.

I understand that a firmware update will resolve that issue.

Other with the same experiences will chime in too I expect.

afaik there is no reliable software update to fix this. Some radios do it, others don't.

I had the same issue with my previous Octy, firmware upgrade solved it.

I had this when I first brought my Octy at the end of last year - firmware upgrade fixed it - under warranty mind.

Mine did it a couple of times. Ignition off sorted it.

Hasn't done it since first service so a firmware fix sounds most likely.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I called the dealer who again claimed they had never heard of the issue and said I would have to take it in for diagnostics - I've got absolutely zero faith in their ability to sort it out after umpteen warranty visits so I am thinking I might be just as cheap buying a Columbus on E Bay, at least that way I will at least see an improvement for my investment.

Cheers

Simpler and cheaper to find another dealer rather than a "cheap" Columbus-type knock-off?

Exactly, change the dealer.

Ugh, sounds like a nightmare. I had mine done at Clock Garage in Derby who I didn't think were very good, but to their credit, they knew of the issue as soon as I mentioned it over the phone.

It is a very common fault, so I can't believe they aren't aware of it?

Of course, there is the possibility that yours already has the firmware fix and something else is causing the same fault in your case.

I started a thread on this a while back (2 yrs or more) titled "I thought I'd been shot" or similar.

Up in the wilds of Aberdeen we are limited to one dealer in a 60 odd mile radius so it is a big hassle/day off work job to try other dealers - have been gingerly using the radio again without any fault - it will probably happen again when I am least expecting it and put me into the path of a juggernaught ! I have had the car 3 years and it has only happened once, so if that is the average I can live with it (I doubt I will still have the car in 3 years so someone else can have the pleasure of the next one !) - if it happens again soon I will take the bull by the horns and get it sorted - either that or start taking the wifes car to work and leave her with the exploding Octavia !!

Well, mine does it, too. But as it only happens 2 or 3 times a year I can live with it...and it does not bang, it only turns off the sound. I then have to switch it off, turn it on again and keep the button pressed until the bang appears and the radio turns off again. After switching it back on a second time it seems to be reset and works normal again...
