Fitting a sub and amp!

Featured Replies

Im fitting a sub and amp into my boot but i was just wondering if anyone could give me a guide or help me on how to feed the wires down as it looks a lot less friendly than the fiesta!

drill through one of the rubber grommet things! :)

and it might help if you took the glove box out its easy to unscrew.

yeah, dont bother puting a sub into a car is one of the worst things you can do for sound quality, in a van different matter, just amp up the 6x9's that will give you a nice quality sound, plus you wont be a chav.

6x9's are extremely chavvy!!

get some good amped comps in the front and that'll do!

fair enough was just trying to get the idea of a sub out of his head

+1!

I would much rather have a sub than 6x9's! 6x9's neither here or there, simply filling sound, least subs have the precision lower notes..

best set up imo would be comp's front and back with sub at the back, soundproofing the car and calibrate. B)

Sub to much bass, well depending on what power, a group of sound engineer students did sound checks on smaller hatch backs and other cars, vans ect ect. But its all down to taste.

6x9's are terrible! Do not buy them!

Worse than a sub?

6x9's and quality in the same sentence don't go together. If you want quality go for components with separate cross overs.

A small sub is much better than 6x9's IMO, and far less chavtastic

I am a pro installer with over 3 years experience and I fitted a sub, & amp and all the wiring in about 3 hours, but I did it totally stealthy - even lifted the carpet and removed hte p/s front seat to aid the fitment. Glovebox out is a must - as is a wire coathanger and a bit of insulating tape!

No bigger than a 12" is required. Mine is only rated at 250W and my amp is a 2 channel bridged Kicker 125W amp. Punchy without rattling your fillings out!

Only needed 1 section of sound deadening to stop the number plate vibrating! Placed on the inside of the boot lid between the number plate screw holes

well the sub is only a nice little 10" nice and punchy bass no makinging other cars vibrate tho, 6x9's im not going to put in as im just gona replace the front speakers with some co axils for better high and mid smae with the rear 10cm speakers

tbh the 6x9's ive got are infinity kappa's whice are amazingly good however yeh they just fill sound and they also distort it alot due to the shape of the 6x9's if i still want more sound ill amp up another set of 17cm's

another thing can someone take me step by step of how to do a profesional job of it (where to hide wires sound proof ect) and also where the gromit ect are into the engine bay

Honestly mate the best thing you could buy is one of those haynes modifing manuals, I know sounds **** but if your looking for information like that they are really good.

another question im geting the speaker adapters for the fronts htey say 03 fabia on but they look the same fitment as the origional speakers, also best shallow 17cm speakers people would recomend 17cm alpines are the only shallow ones i know of.

youll be hard pushed to find any thing better than alpine, it really isnt just a name there fecking brill. The only way youll get better is if you go compition stuff, audio pipe and so on. A brand that is a underdog though are toxic, look good and sound good to, and they're good on the wallet, I used to work for ab styling and kinda worked with sound stuf not installing but i kinda know whats good and not, be carefull off people who think they're pros because they've been fitting there mates subs for a few years, thats all im saying. A good site to check out is bassjunkies.com always have deals on the go.

I used to work for ab styling

Oh, harsh! You have my sympathies!

Worse than a sub?

Im a bit confused why you'd swear by 6x9 over a sub? Im gonna stretch my imagination a little here but I believe that no other speakers in the sound world (home entertainment or professional grade stuff) has assymetical shape of the cone.

From an engineering POV wouldnt the waves pushed from assymetical surface could 'never' give a precise and consistant frequency? i.e. distortion.

Correct me if im wrong :giggle:

Edit: I put 'never' because its not impossible more of unlikely that someone will engineer it to not distort,

What i was saying was that a over powerfull sub drowns out everything, and the only reason you have a sub is for bass, and what i have done in the past not on the new fabia, is amp up the 6x9's and it gave plenty of bass.

Sorry babs somthing to add? What ab styling were you thinking of?

hmm.. depends on what your settings are really, I personally dont like freq around ~100-500hz (makes me sick  ) so I soften them alot, but I tend to set my sub to kick in around 70 odd hz iirc, doesnt intrude on overall sound, actually brings new dimensions to some songs.. i.e. lockdown by whoever its called, if you listen to it without really low end speakers (subs) it really doesn't sound the same. And when we're getting in the low freq. its alot easier to pick up distortion. hence why bigger = better (unless its 15's  ).

Im not an audiophile so I dont know the technical ho ha's or the in's and out's, I just go by ear...

where is the gromet of thing i need to drill trough to take cables into the engine bay?

where is the gromet of thing i need to drill trough to take cables into the engine bay?

I think the one they mean is near the hinge of the RHS (passenger side) bonnet hinge or near the top suspension bolts. The grommet about an inch in diameter iirc......... :wonder:

Removing anything between 300-500ish Hz and your removing some of the key fundamentals to the music, particularly percussion and strings that give the human brain the recognisability factor of that instruments. Just my opinion but cutting between 80-130 removes boom awhilst boosting lower down say 50-70Hz starts to bring in power. I don't have a sub in my car nor do I want one (treasure the boot too much) but I know a few people who've dropped them in and I'd agree with 10-12" is far far adequate enough
