Another 1.2 DSG delivery today!

Featured Replies

I've just got back from picking up my steel grey Elegance 1.2 DSG.

Admittedly I only had a 7 mile drive back to the office to form these opinions, but my first impressions are:

I took a bit of a gamble, as I didn’t even test drive the 1.2. But luckily, on first impressions, I found it fantastic- very quiet, and very impressed with the pull from low revs. You can feel it when the turbo comes in, but it is not intrusive. The engine feels very punchy and I look forward to it getting even smoother as it gets some miles on it. I come from a 1.9 Tdi Golf, and torque from pulling off and going through the gears actually felt stronger in the Yeti

Again, compared to my Golf which also had DSG (albeit the 6 speed), the box on the Yeti seems much smoother than what I was used to, and again I look forward to it loosening up even more. I thought it was supposed to have hill hold, but it did roll backwards slightly on a hill when stopped. Maybe I just didn’t go far enough backwards for it to kick in.

I must say seeing the Yeti in the flesh again, it really is a fantastic looking car and I really like the colour, though I am slightly thinking that I shouldn’t have got the silver roof rails now. Maybe the black would have been better.

One thing I am puzzled by is that another 1.2 DSG owner posted some pictures of his car and he had ‘DSG’ badges on the flanks, and on the boot lid I think it said TSI DSG. Mine has none of this. The only badge I get is the Yeti one. Not that I’m complaining, but is weird where my badges went.

Happily, my factory fit floor mats did not turn up, so I got some dealer supplied mats instead, which had ‘Yeti’ emblazoned on them, which I secretly wanted anyway once I found out that the factory fit mats are plain.

It has a rolling electronic speed indicator in the maxidot display- it was reading km/h though. Must find out how to change that.

My iPhone paired very easily

The salesman also joked that I could sell the car at the moment and probably makes a profit. He said that ex-Skoda UK cars (press fleet and employee company cars) are fetching strong prices at the closed auctions for dealers at the moment, which goes to show the demand for the cars. This bodes really well for residuals. People may baulk at the 16 week wait, but its all good in the long run for the cars keeping their value.

Looking forward to the drive home now!

Don't worry, my DSG hasn't got DSG badges either. And if you find our how to change km/h to mph in the maxidot display, let me know. It would be SO useful to have a digital speedo readout.

i don't think you can. If your speedo is in mph then EU law says you must also have the speed in kph displayed.

If you can sort that one out I will buy you a beer. Good luck!

Hi,

think the DSG badge you mention was not from Skoda but an after market added by the owner :wonder:

1.2TSI's are not badged TSI in the UK as SUK have opted for the de-badge as standard (option in Germany).

The Km/h is fixed I'm afraid, legal requirement as there's no km/h on the actual speedo.

Regards,

TP

Mine just says 'Yeti' on the back. I like that.

The member who had DSG on the back was from Malta or Greece I think, wouldn't have minded having it on mine.
