vrs revs dropping, engine dying

Featured Replies

hi,

as title, when driving the revs will fall and acc pedal does not respond which leads to engine dying, engine will start straight after and drive perfectly fine, it seems to happen if fuel is at the qtr mark but cant be sure due to the rarity of fault.

this has been randomly happening for a while now so i changed my fuel filter and removed pump to check for debris. fuel tank seemed clean whereas filter had little black floaters in fuel and was very murky.

since done filter still happens on occasion, and done it twice 2day, pretty annoying especially when somebody nearly rear ends you when pulling away at lights or losing power steering round the twistys :whew: , doh

has anybody had similar probs and found a cure?

any help appreciated, cheers

It could be a power supply problem to the ECU. There is a relay box in the engine bay with two relays in it, one of those powers the ECU.

I had similar issues a few months back. Five times in a month I had the engine die for no apparent reason and restart just fine. I took it to MKG who "ran full diagnostics" and could find nothing wrong. It hasn't happened again.

It would help to have any fault codes read.

hi m8 had a little fiddle with those relays wiring seems ok and all secure, fault is pretty random though, just wish there was a little led on faulty part saying its me

no engine light on and only codes that ever come up are o2/cat related but doubt these would cause car to shut down?
