Do you have vRS Road Presence?

Featured Replies

This is my second week of vRS ownership, and what a difference I've noticed with the attitude of other drivers! I owned my previous Golf GTi (Petrol Turbo) for 6 years and never had any problems with other road users, now they all appear to be out to kill me! Other drivers seem to just want to shove me off the road  Last week I had a Jerk in a Merc pull out right in front of me, this morning I had a ****** in a Zafira so close to my rear bumper that I felt like I was towing a caravan, and this evening I had a Volvo with attitude behind me, he was so close I could not even see his headlamps.

Like I say, never ever had this before, I'm either invisible or insignificant, there is a problem somewhere. Anyone else had this?

Cant say ive ever felt threatened by anyone due to me having a Skoda, or indeed a Fabia.

Just seem to catch up with people quicker than I used to..lol.

Have noticed this myself recently think it may be to do with the "how quick are skodas now"? so they poke there nose up your ass to find out ...How to respond ...if its an all together more expensive car ie merc/ beemer/audi i usually plant the juice pedal on the floor and tear off ...run of the mill cars ...slow down to a mere crawl that pi**es them off no end....chavs....pull over and let them past....waiving a polite :finger:

Get this all the time... One of the worst being a Nissan Skyline up my **** at 70mph, he was so close i couldnt even see his headlights all i could see was the top half of his body in my rear veiw mirror.

If only this country worked on a zero toloerance scheme 'I am sorry sir but you were caught tailgating within about 2ft of the other vehicle traveling at 70mph, you have 1 week in jail before execution'

The art is to give them long enough to read TDI on the boot (half a hour should do it :) ) before disappearing over the horizon.

I've noticed that some drivers to act very aggressively towards my vRS. But it's normally after I've overtaken them!

Some donkey in a shagged out old Pug 306 (hardly the most beautiful car ever built) decided to flash me continuously for 5 minutes yesterday, after I overtook him. I would say that it was me that should have been angry, because he pulled out on me while I was already overtaking a line of traffic: he clearly didn't use his mirrors. I think he was then upset that he hadn't seen me, and that I was so much quicker than him when he tried to block me further up the road. Idiot. He then nearly totalled his car, trying to follow me past a truck, without taking into account his car's performance. At the time, I was actually hoping he wouldn't make it.

I've noticed a lot of people flash me when I overtake them, even when I'm still inside the speed limit, and when I've no got anywhere near their car. My record is 8 lots of flashes, in 10 miles of road! What makes these numpties think I'm interested in their opinion about my driving?

It has been suggested, though, that they simply don't like being overtaken by a Skoda...

I find that on the motorway - beemers get right up behind me then when I pull over and let them pass they slow down in front of me.

It's like they must be past the Skoda for some reason.

Mine's a debadged estate though so it's not as obviously a vRS.

The exhaust gives it away though!

Thats why I was going to debadge mine, but really, I'm not sure theres any point, since its clearly not a standard Fabia anyway, that much is obvious even without looking at the badge.

I definitely find more drivers taking an interest in the performance of my VRS, generally by tailgating me up the motorway in an effort to either a. get me to pull over, even though there are lines of traffic insode me and in front, or b. show me that they can keep up with me. Usually it ends up with the traffic in front of me filtering away so I can leave the guy behind me in a cloud of dust! I definitely reckon that some drivers of larger German automobiles (no names) have a chip on their shoulder about being passed by a 'lowly' Skoda, and tend to make a concerted effort to catch up once they have been, also ending in woe for them, apart from the one time I overtook an M3, which then caught up and passed verrrrryyy slowly, obviously amazed at the performance/ audacity of my VRs!

i had a civic type r stick right behind me on the m1 on saturday, even though we were in traffic and i could go no further/faster. when the queue ended he was desperate to get past me even if it meant him going well over the speed limit.

similar thing this morning on the a14. an audi a6 would not pull over and kept in the outside lane even though it was obvious i wanted to go past him (no i wasnt tailgating!!)

i like it though that people are so bothered. if its safe to play i will do, if not, they can carry on. if they want to wreck their car its up to them. all fun and games though.

I used to think it was bad enough in my Superb (1.9TDI 130bhp). BMWs, Mercs and Jags seem to hate it when I just pull away from them. My wife says it's even worse in her Fabia (1.9TDI 100BHP) . Everyone seems to think it's a woman in a Fabia and she shouldn't be on the road. Seems to keep her amused though watching them disappear into the distance behind her.

I get this often in both Octys and in the Felicia before them. Some people just can not stand to be behind a Skoda. Last Thursday at about 6.30pm I was heading into Belfast on the M2 in the vRS. I had been travelling in the inside lane but was rapidly catching up with a slow moving van. Checked my mirrors, outside lane was clear except for a Merc, which must have been 200 yards back and travelling at similar speed to me. I indicated and started to pull out. The Merc accelerated hard and came right up my tail, flashing his lights etc. This ****ed me off, so rather than continuing on at 80mph as I and he had been driving at, I slowed to the 70mph speed limit. By this stage the inner lane was fairly full with slow traffic. The Merc continued to drive so close to me that I could not see his actual headlights. I pulled forward a bit and switched on my rear fogs to give him the message that he was too close. He ignored this. Further down the road the M5 merges with the M2, he swung unto the M5 and passed me on the left. Just passed the merge is the Fortwilliam exit which I was taking so I indicated and started pulling across the lanes to get to the exit. The Merc clown obviously thought that I was trying to pass him on the left and swung into the lane in front of me and kept doing this right to the leftmost lane which leaves the M-way for the junction. In the end he had to do a dangerous lane switch to get back unto the M2, causing a BMW to have to brake hard with much beeping.

Bloody idiot, I was not racing him, nor did I cut him up, all I can think is he objected to having a Skoda in front of him.

i am convinced its a Vrs thing!!! other road users are always pushing you to see what it will do presumably, i think to be honest over the last couple of years the Skoda reputation has had a bit of a boost. people who wouldn't have given them a second glance are now taking notice, and those that have spent a small fortune buying their BM's etc, must think that a Vrs is a complete p*** take really.

Just enjoy the feeling of yes mate this is my car and yes mate i probably could whip your ass.xx

There are some brilliant replies here :) . I honestly don't think that the general public know whether it's a vRS or not, but what they do know is that it's a Skoda, and they really don't want to be behind it.

Oh I'll have such fun once it's run in :)

we are lucky, where I live we have lots of those unlit pedestrian refuges in the middle of the road. Two ways to use these when moron on your bumper.

1. spot a refuge coming up, indicate left put arm out of window and wave moron past, listen for moron to bollard contact noise.

2. stop adjacent to refuge with refuge blocking moron from overtaking. Wait for moron to reverse and then take off, repeat as required.

 :drive:

I can't say I've noticed any change in drivers' attitudes towards me since changing from a Golf to the Fabia vRS, although for a while I thought I was being followed too closely, this seems to be a characteristic of the rear view mirror, on mine at least!

I'm glad it wasn't just me that used to get the local chavs (and anyone else in a reasonably fast car) trying to push me into a race. One of the reasons I sold the vrs was the hassle I used to get which sometimes resulted in going up to 130mph + just to show people what it could do. I know I should have been more restranied but it's hard when you've got all that power so for the sake of my licence the vrs had to go. I've now got a bmw320d sport and plod along with no loonies in chaved up corsers bothering me - only one slight problem though it's not as slow as I hoped and Van aiken do a tuning box which will take it up to 180bhp - I MUST RESIST

I've found more clowns seem to respect my car when I have the 17s on - I've seen some cars coming up to my right for a traffic light duel, suddenly pull in behind me... :D Yet, now I'm running on steels it seems people think I'm slow so hassle me. :grumpy: I'm thankful the car is just as quick in a straight line, so a bit of fun is normally had. Have to say though, steels are CRAP at going around bends... Guess I'm just to used to the handling of riding on 17s.

I don't think many people know what a vrs is. Like someone said, they just know it's a skoda and don't like the idea. Some people still mock when I say I have a skoda. A friend of my wife's says that when someone tailgates her, she sprays the window washers over them - I did try it myself and white van man backed off.

I've had my Octy vRS six months, and I have to agree with you there...

After a 120+ mph run in with a jag a few weeks ago, who then flashed me his police badge at the next roundabout (you can imagine what I said...), I've had to seriously calm my driving down !

I have to admit to actively BMW batting though.... Perhaps that's why the police now use unmarked vRS's...

Does anyone know if debadging makes much difference to the amount of racing you get baited in to?

i can admit to that also, always go for the BMW's as they always want to play!!!

 With just 600 miles on the clock, I'm starting to play a little, BUT still not exceeding 3000rpm. Tonight, another
Jerk in a Merc
, right up my backside through the town, onto the dual carriageway and he pulls into the fast lane to pass me, I hesitate (just to give him some confidence) and then use 4th and 5th up to 3000rpm, when I look in my mirror he's about 100 yards behind me in the slow lane! Fabtastic. The vRS is surprisingly quick, and now I'm starting to suffer with that Big Grin syndrome that you all talk about. :D
