Vibration/buzzing noise - drivers door

Featured Replies

I have an irritating buzzing/vibration noise coming from the driver's door. It is road surface dependent, and seemd to be getting worse. When I put my hand on the door trim it stops, as it does when I push the "silver" inset panel trim (its a vRS). Anyone had this, and come up with a fix?

Thanks.

Funnily enough.......

I'm taking my 59 plate Octavia into the garage for some warranty work tomorrow. When I first got the car (new) I noticed a slight buzzing noise coming from the drivers door when on the motorway or at speed. I could never identify where the noise was coming from. Fast forward 5 months and when I was washing the car I noticed that the external door protection strip (halfway up) on the drivers door looked a bit loose. When I prodded it about 50% of the the strip sprang out. The glue had failed !!!!

I taped the strip back on and lo and behold the buzzing noise disappeared. Looks like that the loose front edge of the strip was fluttering when the wind got behind it at speed.

Took it to the dealer and it was immediately accepted as a valid warranty claim.

May not apply to you but may be worth a look to ensure all these strips are glued on properly and that there is NO gao between the strip and the actual door itself.

I am also getting a similar vibration coming from my drivers door panel. It also stops when I press near the silver trim towards the back of the door.

I had a quick look but couldn't see anything obviously loose so it may prove difficult to pin point.

My 3 month old vRS has just started with a similar buzzing noise, but coming from the both the driver and front passenger doors. I found that if you press on the door trim it stops, or pull on the handle (as if you were closing the door) it stops. It definitely does it more on rougher roads, and more at lower speeds (eg: 30mph), rather than on the motorway (unless I can't hear it due to more road noise at speed). Any fixes would be useful to save a trip to the dealer (especially as you can almost guarantee that it won't do it when they have the car....). Will check the strip on the doors to see if they are loose!

Yep same here - the only rattle/vibration that comes out of the car - quite irritating!

By chance I may have stumbled on a temporary fix. I found today that if I open the drivers window a touch and then close it the vibration noise disappears and does not recur, at least during my 40 min commute.

Same on my Octy.

Rattle coming from front codriver door.

As I dont have warranty any more I am planning to remove inside door cover and fix everything inside with the duck tape (I supose there should be some cables and other things rattling). I just have to find some time and courage to do it yourself:) I have Haynes manual for Golf/Jetta where procedure is described, and I suppose it should be the same for Octy.

I posted before that I was having some warranty work done on my Octavia which I thought might be contributing to the noises I was hearing from the drivers side door.

The work is now done and in my case I don't get the low frequency buzzing noise from the drivers door.

To recap, the problem in my case was that the external rubbing/protection strip on the drivers door was becoming progressively unglued from the door. Wind was obviously getting under it at speed and was peeling the strip back. In my case it became unglued from about 50% of its length. I think this was causing the noise in my case.

After the work was done, the mechanic pointed out something to me. If you look at these external door strips (driver and passenger sides) on all FL Octavias the glue holding it to the door does not extend right to the end of the strip (the end facing the front of the car which faces the wind). This is how it is manufactured and, in my opinion, it is asking for trouble. Apart from a potential noise issue, anybody who uses a car wash may find the brushes get caught under the gap which exists at the front of these trims because they are not glued down at the front edge. I looked at every Skoda model on the forecourt, and it is the same for every FL Octavia they had. But all other models have their trims properly glued.

Why on earth are Skoda doing this?

Started to get the same problem here on co drivers door, it does appear to stop when I press the silver inside strip and very dependent on road surface rather than speed it seems. Any more solutions other than the external trim coming away?
