Can't see any photo but if your discs have a big lip then yes, most likely need replacing!

They look knackered :giggle:

That does look lind of worn yes, but it's usual to measure the disc thickness with a micrometer, not just look at the rust on the rim, which can go to 3 mm or so "above" the wearing area without cracking.

yup they be fecked

How big is the Lip on the Disc, give it a runn off with a driver to get rid of all the rust, and if its at about 3-4mm change the discs (and pads) just for saftys sake

I would measure the disc thickness with a micrometer, it may be easier to remove the pads to do this. The fronts are 22mm min (25mm new) and rear ones are 7mm min (9mm new)

The pic looks like what my rear discs were like, the pads had plenty of material left, but were de-laminating (coming off the backing plate) so new ones were required, the discs were about 8mm thick near the edge, but the garage insisted I had new ones. It was only £100 ish for discs and pads. I should have renewed my fronts last year as they were 22.75mm, however the EBC pads I use don't wear the discs down much.

To stop wearing your discs too quickly, regular spraying with WD40 will keep the surface nice and clean.

Braking distances may be affected.

In some ways this is completely normal....

The design of these rear disc brakes is shocking.

Its because the pads don't overlap the edge of the disc I think...

So many other marques don't sem to suffer this much.

VAG cars however..... Common flaw.

My question is simple. What are they doing right that VAG are doing wrong.

My mark 3 golf... Same thing.... My Bora... Same thing,,,,, My furby... Yep... you got it... :smirk:

Mrs Grrs SDI has drums on the rear and her brakes are excellent!!!

The bloody thing stops like you've just lobbed a half ton anchor out of the window!!

They never squeal or moo when reversing... (sound familiar?)

Handbrake lever feels like its attatched to something. ( Unlike my vRS... )

Every single time I switch with the Mrs and use her car, I virtually catapult myself through the windscreen

the first time I pull up at a junction....

Mrs Grr when she drives mine has of course, the opposite experience...

And thats just downright scary... :o

That's a great stripey surface on your driveway. Is is some kind of non-slip concrete? Never seen anything like it, I'm guessing a specialist machine finish?
