Wing Mirrors Demister, Weird Wipers

Featured Replies

Hi there,

So far I am very pleased with the Yeti, I have gone on a motorway drive in the last couple of days, and found the tracking is a tiny bit out, but will sure notify the dealer - its only done 300 miles!! I don't fancy to have it done by random garages.

Anyway, I have several questions regarding the Yeti's electrics. My friend's parents had an Octavia and when it was 4-5 years old, the electrics went wrong and I also understand that Audi and VW's electrics are a little weird, with sunroof randomly openning etc. But those could be isolated examples and may not affect everyone. Whilst my Yeti doesn't have a sunroof - althought it looks amazing and very well priced (well taken into account Porsche want £400 more than Skoda for the same system in their Cayenne), mine was in stock so I didn't specify that, and of course you can't get it in an S!

I have several questions which I hope someone could help:

1) When I adjust the right hand side wing mirror (driver's side for anyone with LHD), the left one also moves at the same time?? But when I adjust the left one, it only moves that one and not the right one - is this some kind of feature, or is it just wired up weirdly?

2) When I consult the handbook, it shows that the Yeti has heated wing mirror - is this standard on the S? I understand the knob has to be twisted to the otherside, it just doesn't feel right, it has the demister picture, but the knob does not settle next to the picture, but exactly 180 degrees from the 0. My question is how do I know whether it has one? apart from frying my hands?

3) This morning when I used the wipers on intermittent, all is well, but at the end when I turn the wipers position to off, it shuddered and adjust themselves lower. This has also happened before when I switch off the engine, it shuddered.

I am just wondering whether these are normal?

On a different note, I previously found there is some knocking from the rear - it seem to turn out to be the seat belt knocking on to one of the trim - they are now fastened and no more noise!

Thanks

Although i haven't a yeti the mirrors are the same on my Octavia. You adjust the right mirror then the left , then if say your wife etc adjusts the seat forward both mirrors can be adjusted in tandem, and moved back again. Quite useful really. Also the heated mirror doesn't naturally rest on the icon it is normal. My car blades occasionally stutter as well even though they have not been in use when turning off ignition. I have spoken to mates, and there cars do it too!

I have answered your queries, see below.

This is correct, although it can be disabled if you have maxidot. VAG cars have been like this since at least 2001, my MK1 vRS was setup like this.

Thats right, the mirror demist function on the Yeti is 180 degrees from the off position, and it functions even with the rear screen demister off, so remember to turn them off when not needed otherwise you may burnout the element in the mirror.

This is normal as well, its so that the wipers park in a different position every so many wipes to avoid unneccesay wear on the blades. Both my previous octy and current superb are the same.

Excellent, thanks very much to both!

I thought the wipers were quite clever as I think it reduces drag, so it doesn't need any wiper spoiler? I have no idea what I am talking about but its clever.

I have to say I am not a big fan of the RHS mirror adjusting the LHS mirror at the same time though - annoys me a bit, but I don't think I really need to adjust them anyway, I don't have Maxidot but would like one, but the normal LCD has all the information I want, I might upgrade it in a year or so!

Thanks

The thing that threw me about the wipers is something I noticed recently in the rain......

With the rear wiper OFF it still wipes!! Thought that cannot be right.....scanned the manual to find the following function:

With the front wipers in the auto (intermittent) position, when they switch to wiping continuously then the rear wiper will wipe at a regular interval even if its OFF! :S Think it said that can be disabled via the maxidot setup just haven't bothered and not sure if I want to yet.

I find this very useful. When it rains that much you need to wipe rear window sometimes also.

The point of this is that the VAG system will "guess" the passenger mirror position relative to the driver's mirror. So in effect you only ever need to set the driver's mirror and the system will then automatically set the passenger one to match. You thus never need to set the passenger one.
