Clicking/tapping fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just spent hours cleaning my car, took her out for a drive to show off my hard work and there is a horrible tapping/clicking noise coming from the engine! I can only describe it as how my first ever h reg ford fiesta sounded when the tappets were knackered!

Now I know nothing about engines so really don't know where to start, I will get it in to the garage next week but wondered if anyone has any idea what it might be? Silly question but do fabia vrs have tappets and is that the likely problem? Oil level is fine btw.

Thanks in anticipation

Does sound weird, tappets - but oil is fine. Is it really loud ?

Loud enough to hear with window down, the clicking speeds up as I press the accelerator too.

Thanks

hi Kirk i seem to get the clicking noise aswel not the tapping though, its happend twice since owning the car sometimes mainly on cold start up but then goes away, any info on the noise would be greatful when your car returns from the garage

Just went out for a quick drive to see if it still makes this noise when warm and by the time I got home 10 minutes later it sounds fine.

Fingers crossed it was a one off!

K4HN if I do end up at the garage then I will let you know the outcome matey :0)

injector tick??

I had something similar with my Fabia. It turned out to be the timing chain - but the reason with me was lack of oil. I was told that the tensioners have issues, so maybe it's loose.

It's a belt for the vRS not a chain though

Assuming it is the tappets----Are you sure the right oil is in the engine? See sticky above.

Has the oil been changed recently? If not Change it now.

They have hydraulic tappets which commonly stick when cold and the oil is mostly the problem.

This happened to my vRS about 6 moths ago. Loud ticking one morning, sounded like a injector or a loose spark plug if it was a petrol. Turned out it was a tappet. went away a few hours later so I wouldnt worry about it.

Thanks all for your help,

it had an oil change a month ago but I am going to check they used the right oil as it was at an independant garage.

Just been out in the car again and the noise has definately gone, at least for now. Will keep an eye on it and book it in if it happens again.

Thanks again,

kirk

Ideally you should have a garage remove the rocker cover and check the camshaft lobes and tappet faces for wear. It's a known issue with the PD130 engine top end. Especially if the wrong engine oil has ever been used at a service. Due to the fact the camshaft also drives the injectors via extra rockers, the camshaft lobes for the tappets are narrower than a 'normal' setup. If the wrong oil is used, the cam lobes wear rapidly, and in the process destroy the top face of the hydraulic tappets.

I seem to be having this issue.

A tapping noise that speeds up and slows down under revs.

Is it advised to take it to Skoda to be checked out?

Skoda did an service a couple of k miles ago and didn't really notice it until recently.

Ive noticed this on mine too, mainly after doing lots of short journeys and just before a service is due. I put it down to the oil being thin and the short journeys not helping. My service is due again in 600 miles and it did it a few weeks ago.

Mine does this and I only just changed my oil, I noticed it worse after changing the oil and I've used the same oil as normal, castrol edge turbo diesel

Is this happening on tick over (not driving) ? If so, like mine, and goes away on pressing the clutch it will be the DMF. Even if it is when driving, you might want to rule out the DMF

Mine is def not dmf, happens under light acceleration

I no it's an old post this

but is there any more info on this as mine is doing the same thing . Dose it around once a week

I have the same occasional tapping noises for years now. It goes away after a few minutes of driving and in 99% of the time, the tappets are heard if the car is left outside and if it's a bit cold. In the garage or during summer time it rarely ever happens.

As someone mentioned the 1.9 PD engines do have a tendency to wear out the camshaft and the tappets, but researching about it, if they are busted the clicking is constantly present and much louder than what we experience.

Of course, it wouldn't be too bad to take off the valve cover and check for wear - I think any mechanic can do that, or even DIY.

If mine stands for over 2 days it gets a dry tappet. . Ten min run amd its ok ;)

Ye it' seams to be if it's been stud for a while or if it's been doing short trips shop and back ect
