PS. When will we read in the news that someone's defence to a speeding ticket was "I had to perform a customer initiated regeneration drive?". Ten quid says it will happen. Or worse still, soon there will be a fatality happening somewhere because this mad dpf technology will cause someone to drive like a loon for 10 minutes and end up having a crash. Believe me it will happen, because if you give people a car and tell them that if the light comes on you must drive at x mph for y minutes or it will go wrong and you won't be covered under the warranty. Oh - and according to the AA, if it can't be regenerated, a new one will cost you a thousand quid.

DPF's are utterly insane. The road safety implications are crazy. No doubt this was all thought up by some silly cow sitting in an office in Brussels.

Says it all really. Glad I've gone for the 1.4 tsi over the 1.6 tdi for my new octy, especially given my frequent short driving trips.
