Recommendations for Cambelt Change South Yorkshire

Featured Replies

Looking to have my cambelt changed very soon and wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere local to me. I am based in Barnsley. My car is a 54 plate Octavia VRS.

Also what price should I be paying? I was expecting about £300-350?

Cheers guys and gals

I'd go to Awesome GTi in Irlam.

It's 50 miles from you, but well worth it for peace of mind.

You could try a local Skoda dealer, but they will be expensive and hit and miss on standard of work.

I had mine done at Bickertons last week.... I had a voucher from them for 15% off the cambelt & fitting on my Fabia vRS.... Came to around £249 with the voucher but should have been around £290.

Another good place not too far from yourself may be Independant Cars in Ecclesfield, just off junction 35 of the M1........ When the flywheel went on the mrs' vRS last year Bickertons wanted well over £1000 to replace flywheel and clutch where as Independant Cars did it for around £700 i think it was.

Cheers

Dave.

Thanks for the replies....

I have been to awesome in the past for a rolling road day on the mkivs forum and was very imprest with the set up, just as you say a bit of a trek.

I will give Bickerton a bell just to compare prices and take it from there...

Does anyone know what belts are normally changed? I presume its cam, pas, aux?

You should get the cambelt, aux (ribbed) belt and the cambelt tensioner. Whilst all that is off, get a new water pump as it's only an extra 4 bolts and about £23 for the part.

My TT is in Awesome next Tuesday for cambelt etc... it's done 93K without one so it's on very light duties until then!

yep i had mine done recently at bickertons also

great service... unlike some garages, where you are not kept upto date with where they are with things *cough JBS *cough*

i also had a lot of other things including a turbo at the same time... and competitive on price... but i cant rem what exactly for cambelt as my total bill that day was £1682 or thereabouts :'(

there is a new service guy at JBS you may find is slightly better than the old one, but maybe not!

I contacted http://www.jorily.com who have advertised on the forum and they quoted £200 with genuine parts. I think that is just the cambelt kit with the water pump being extra. There only about 10 mins from me so will pop down and see what the set up is like.

tell graham billy at tps sent you down and i'm sure he'll look after you ! he's a nice bloke

I use a local garage in wakefield. I have used him for years, as do my friends, family and anyone I can recommend him to. He specialises in performance cars, owning a fair few himself (including a 700bhp MR2, and a 200sx with a tuned skyline engine for drifting) I can guarantee this guy will be the cheapest, and you will recieve a very good friendly service.

I can find out a price for you if you wish, let me know

(I know it sounds like I'm plugging him, but honestly he is that good)

thats interesting to know... i just found that when my turbo went.. and did have in mind spending a fair amount of cash (to me anyway) on one of there turbo upgrades.. i wasnt shown a lot of customer service, given one price, then when was about to go for it not long after told it would be about another £800 more... :S and to say my last octy went to them for every service 4 years before, and various mods... poor show really :S

so thats why in the end i just let skoda replace like for like

yeh i've heard that from loads of people they are only 2 minutes away from where i work and buy their bits from us so i speak to them quite regularly, they did try to get me there but the money wasnt good enough so they went for the new guy seb, loads more polite even if not quite up to the old guy technically but i'm sure that comes with experience. they've always been a bit on the pricey side so i've heard
