EGR Delete

Featured Replies

Going to remove the EGR valve as the thought of the gunk going in to the intake terrifies me. Sourced a bypass pipe and know a mapper who can map out the CEL light.

My question is do I need to get a stainless boost pipe and some samco hosing to make sure it gets a good fix, or can I just cut off the metal rim on the current piece of piping and use a jubilee clip to fix this on to the EGR bypass pipe?

you can pikey cut the metal col-let off, but be careful :)

Ah ok I'm unsure weather to get a stainless boost pipe and some silicone hose or just adapt the existing fitting.

When you remove the EGR what do you do with the vacuum pipes and the pipe which delivers the exhaust gases?

Is it a 45 degree or 90 degree bend of silicone pipe when using a stainless boost pipe to attach to the EGR? And would I also need a silicone elbow for the bottom where the intercooler attaches to the boost pipe?

samco req is a 90 elbow, 57mm internal diameter

stainless pipes can be got off vrsdovit in the group buy / for sale section

the stainless pipe fits into the existing pipe that goes to the top of your smic, the collet on this needs cut off

you will need various jubilee clips, for the top 90 samco onto the egr something around 50/70mm should suffice and possibly the same for the bottom i cant remember!

heres some pics from mine

before samco! mines actually kept popping off

oh and the vacuum hoses a golf tee seems to fit nicely in the end of them then taped up with electrical tape :)

So it looks like I can carefully cut the metal ring off and then jubilee clip the hose on to the EGR valve. I might try this then if it pops off I'll look in to a stainless pipe with some Samco. I'll have to see if the EGR bypass kit I've found has the exhaust seal in it too.

The cheap option is to leave the EGR valve in place and remove the vacuum hose and blank the hose end with a golf tee. The EGR will be permanently off even though still connected to the exhaust, no gas can get past the shut valve. Then have the CEL light mapped out.

I've been gathering some parts today ready for the EGR delete.

Ive got the EGR bypass pipe with a jubilee clip and rubber o ring.

A piece of sheet metal to make a blanking plate for the exhaust pipe.

A spare boost elbow pipe so I can remove the metal collar and retain an OEM look, also means I can refit the EGR if necessary. (Thanks to JonnyIntegrale from here)

3 Hex bolts for securing the bypass pipe.

Is there anything else I haven't got?

Total cost so far is £35 and my mapper said he would map out the CEL for £10.

Where did you find the EGR pipe for £35..?

Question RE EGR delete pipes, is there any which one can still have the anti-stutter valve in place..?

The EGR pipe was £20 and came with the o ring, bolts and sheet metal from PD Tuning in Boldon where I got my map done. It's not an Allard or Jabba, I think it's a pipe they get made up themselves but looks to do the job, as long as I clamp the boost pipe on it tight enough with a jubilee clip. The other £15 was for the spare silicone boost elbow as I didn't want to hack up the one on the car and not be able to refit the EGR.

Ive had the end of the EGR delete pipe flared out today so it doesn't pop off under boost as the pipe had no bead on it to hold the hose on. Nice tight fit now and gives the jubilee clip something to clamp against.

You should get a bigger clip to hold the the hose on, like the one in the photo holding the hose onto the Allard EGR pipe. Those puny Jubilee's aren't up to the job. You can buy them from a boat shop or truck/tractor parts shop.

My Jubilee clip fell of the EGR pie which had a lip for better grip.
