I know your all going to think i am mad, But has any one towed a caravan with a octy 2 petrol vrs hatch (57 plate) as the wife has finaly persuaded me to get one its only a light weight van at 1100kg i know the car on paper can tow up to 1600kg so i am well in the weight limit, the car itsealf has been revo'd to stage 2 with exhaust and intake etc, any thoughts anyone.

It should be fine, you might have to rev the engine a bit to obtain max torq (diesel is better low down), have you got a towbar fitted ? if not just be awair of the CAN bus electrics as you just cannot just scotchlock onto the wires, but get out there and enjoy camping ! cheers - Stuart

I have a friend with one and he has no problem towing a 1350kg van. I know pundits will say a diesel gives you low down torque for pulling but you have more bhp.My friend, who has had loads of cars, says it makes a very good tow car but the ride is a bit harsh with a caravan attached.

You shouldn't have a problem with weight as the 85% guideline gives you a towing capacity of about 1240kg. But do have a look here:

I can't comment about the suitablity of the petrol as I have a diesel Scout - which is very good so far (not that I've been far in it yet).

I would double check the weight that you have there. Skoda quote 1600kg's but on the V5 it should show the maxium towing weight which on mine (FL-vRS diesel) is 1400kg's.
