Sound Absorbing/Proofing Material

Featured Replies

To be honest I don't really think it's that bad sound wise. However, I do have an estate with a variable boot floor full of stuff. I wonder if this makes much difference?

However, I have put an old fleece blanket under the back seat! Nothing but the best!!! ha ha.

it makes hell of the difference.

Once you drive completely damped car you will do the same with the next one

I have two pieces of cloud 9, 9mm PU foam underlay after I added some to my boot floor and rear bench area.

http://www.underlay.com/cirrus.htm

Each of the two pieces are the full width of the under rear bench area, with one slightly larger than the other, but my guess is that each one would be suitable to provide some sound proofing in that area.

I already had some dynamat xtreme down, so a layer of this seems to have nicely cut down on the higher frequency noise that was left.

Not silent, but a noticeable improvement over the dynamat alone.

So anyone who can collect from the Southampton or Portsmouth areas can have one of these pieces for a single bottle of real ale.

cheesemonkai do you still have this underlay i would be happy to trade some ale for it.

Also do you fancy reviving the GB on dynomat extreme??

I have some (about 3 meters) of rubber backed underlay, see my post on the ad section.

Right then, I "soundproofed" the wheel well bottom [1], boot floor and all in behind the boot sides today with Dynamat Xtreme, and plan to carry on and do under the rear bench and right up under the carpet to the front of the passenger compartment in the not-too-distant future.

Question is, will that be sufficient, or should I plan on putting anything else in there as well? I'm fairly confident that the Dynamat will do a good job, however after the joys of doing the boot today, I'm sure that I will only want to take the carpet out once IYSWIM.

[1] didn't do the sides as the no-spare-wheel polystyrene thingy is a very tight fit [2]

[2] and I ran out of Dynamat

In the boot, I'd probably put some of the cloud9 stuff or similar on top as that takes out the high pitch noise too.

As for the sides of the wheel well, if it's so tight that it's pushing against the well that will probably help, but if not then I'd have a look at the possibility of sanding it down a few mm.
