Headlight Bulbs

Featured Replies

Just wondering what headlight bulbs everyone is running?

I had Phillips Extreme Vision +80% in my ST and was pretty happy with them. However put some ring +100% bulbs in my girlfriends car the other week and they seem much brighter -more of a white colour as well.

Also, what side light bulbs have people upgraded to?

I need to replace mine asap as the passenger side has gone.

You wont go far wrong with a set of Osram Night-breakers mate

Had 'em in all 3 of my Skodas with excellent results.

Also never had a bulb go on me

Ben,

I've heard from various sources that the Osram have a much shorter life? but I guess it depends on the car/headlight e.t.c. Do they provide a "whiter" white than the OEM bulbs?

I cannot comment on the life of the Osrams as I say - I've never had one go on me in 7 or so years of motering :) - maybe I just got lucky ;) (?) but yes the light they provide is a lot whiter then the OEM bulbs

If you order from powerbulbs, I think all members get a discount, and they used to do free sidelights (Phillips Bluevision) with all orders.

I had some Philips extremes 80% in mine, and they were fine. Lasted a year so far, and still in the garage waiting to find a home/ use (would still be in use if I didn't got xenons now).

Heard some good things about the Halfords 80% bulbs - meant to be good value if they're still BOGOF too.

Use these in your sidelights...

They're proper!

They can be used for interior map lights too!! Loads more effective than standard fit maplights.

Then wallop one of these in the middle lamp and it'll be like a bleeding sunbed in there :D :D :D

You may have to slightly bend the contacts in a bit to grip it tightly...

Dipped: Philips Vision Plus (+50%)

Main: Osram NightBreakers (+90%)

Side: OEM

Indicators: Philips SilverVision

I do have some X-treams to replace the Vision Plus dipped, before next winter. I have also read on here that NightBreaker dipped don't last as long as X-Treams.

those LED sidelights look cool but the dam sidelights are the hardest to change! nearly impossible :/

A better place to get those LED's is a user called: warden_jp2002, I've been using them for years on ebay. However I believe he's changed to a new name of warden_jp2008.

Question about festoon LED's has anyone changed their one on the back number plate? If so which ebay seller did you use? I cant seem to find many festoon led's on ebay..

Also, I'd like to see the Ring VS Philips Extreme bulbs... I was deciding this few months ago for my gf's car and went with Philips because of brand (and Ring bulbs were "new out" so not many reviews online)

Yes, tried the single version and the 5 smd version, I prefered the 1 big smd version as it looks more like a normal light rather than multiple leds..

Sorry edit on above, seller is this person:

Link (single led)

lol no probs matey..... I think ebay has it's good and bad days.

There have been a few of us who have replaced the numberplate lights with LED's but i don't think anyone has ever had any that last more than 6-12 months. Consensus was that it was to do with the banging / force inflicted on them when closing the boot. I've gone back to bulbs in mine but the mrs' vRS has got LED's still at the mo.... I think they are approaching 12 months now so they are doing well.

Cheers

Those particular LEDs are metal jacketed and of the highest quality.

I too was worried they may not fit through the hole. It was snug but they went in with room.

They are machined out of a solid piece of aluminium I think, And look good in the clusters even when off.

Reassuringly heavy for what they are if you catch my drift.

As far as changing the bulbs... The long nosed pliers are your friend.

I did my numberplate ones with LED festoons but they are ridiculously bright!!

I've got to turn them or something... It looks like I have six white lights on the back of the car. LOL

Daveywavey - Interesting.. maybe because they're festoons and they can get loose easily (as opposed to 501s or the likes). Which in turn causes disconnections for fractions of seconds then makes it burn out quicker..might put some padding on the outside edge of the prongs to see if it helps then.. Thanks..!

Just bought the 9smd one for the interior (£3 from ebay hk seller) and 2 smd (metal version) for the plates (£5 for the pair).

As for sidelights, just left hand fingertip jobby ;)

I had the 2SMD one's in the numberplate too...... I have had LED's in the interior lights from new and still going strong. Went for the 5SMD 501's in the interior map lights as they gave a better all round light. The interior festoon is an old style 9 or 11 LED bulb that's been in about 3 and a half years now.

Do the interior and map led bulbs fade out like the standard ones do?

Did you get yours from aceparts or whatever there called one eBay ?

If you did I got the same ones and I know what you mean about the reflection of them on the bodywork but even turning them makes no difference and the light becomes dimmer so it kind of defeats the object of having them !

They do look good though and I would deffo recommend them and they have a 12 month warrenty :)

Can't remember where I got the numberplate bulbs from.

Hong Kong I think.... They were about 99p each plus a pound and a bit postage.
