Hi there. Cannot find the radio code after previously disconnecting and removing battery to drain out gallons of water that flooded my servo! Supplying dealer has no record of it, local dealer said I need to contact supplying dealer, who then said they need to plug into their computer, half hour labour charge (£50!) to read code. Local dealer said they "might" have to remove stereo, read the serial number, send that off, there is a charge for that, but not sure what it will be.

Sounds like a right old pain in the proverbial for something that should be damn simple.

Will probably just replace with an aftermarket one, which will play back ipod etc.

However, in the meantime, can someone tell me if plugging in VAGCOM will really show the code? Or if I get the unit removed can I get the code from the unit s/number through those "websites" that claim to be able to do this?

Have you checked the radio book? Mine is the sat/nav radio so I hope yours is the same. Page 71 or last but one page there should be a radio passport bit printed on the bottom right hand corner. Mine was there. Just grateful the previous owner did not remove it. fingers crossed.

Go to a decent dealer instead of a useless one that it appears you have locally.

Remove stereo, write down the serial number and push back in (but not all the way), go to the dealers (phone them first as it may need to be booked in) and give them the serial number and it will take them 10 - 15 mins maximum (including driving the car in and out of the workshop).

The result being they charge you for just the time taken - mine cost about £20 IIRC.

The radio code is still in the radio manual in my car, the code is a pretty long string of letters and numbers. My car has the Sat Nav system fitted as it's Elegance trim though.

Here's what I know from my Elegance spec: the radio code IS four digits, Fred check to see if the sticker is correctly aglined with the book.

The car and radio DO NOT always pair up automatically after you remove and replace the radio.

On my car the radio code is NOT the last four digits of the serial number. HTH
