Remap graphs

Featured Replies

I'm going to go ahead and get my vRS remapped, hopefully this week.

I've previously seen a dyno graphs pasted about the interweb with comments on how it looks like a good remap, and how it drives 'smooth' and such. I don't understand quite how to read these graphs myself. Would anyone be so kind as to post what a 'good' graph should look like, and why it's 'good' for a simpleton like myself? :-)

One is Torque, in lb/ft and the other BHP, in, well HP! Simples! :D

What it will look like :D

Smart, and a lovely shiny car!!

Is the dotted line the torque?

Cheers! :)

Yep, shows the drop in torque after the initial surge to 250 odd lb/ft - all the PD130 engines drop off like this which is a shame but its why they are fun to drive!

I see, I see. I presume the Ibiza was limited to just under 300lb/ft to save the clutch?

My car has actually been dropped off already, so by tomorrow lunch time it'll be done. Interested to see what mine will look like now! I didn't really request anything specific (it's a custom one as decat), so I can only hope it's decent lol

I was wondering, is it possible to move the torque curve more towards the high end of the rpm with remapping (like a petrol)..? What would they change in physical terms? i.e. later spool up, more fuel, less fuel, more air?

Mark - the map was just a generic one as didn't have major mods to make it custom. It rr'd later in the year with a cat-back Milltek @ 166bhp and 300lb/ft.

Map was good, nice strong surge and rev'd free all the way.

Original clutch for 30k miles and no slip!

JLneonhug - you can have a custom map if you went for a bigger turbo it'd change the curve alot. Devonutopia should have a graph of his!

Oh right, cool. I've got the Milltek decat + cat back. Kinda hoping it'll make 170bhp. The rev free sounds good though. Mine seems to struggle after about 3000rpm :-)

I am a bit worried about the clutch. I would guess it's still the original, and I have no idea if the way I drive / have driven has helped it at all. I have on occasion been in a high gear and gone a bit heavy on the foot (of course it goes no where till about 2000rpm!) as I forget to change down, and used to pootle along at 1500rpm. Hopefully it'll be OK. I've felt it rev before and go nowhere, but im pretty sure that was more accidental wheel spin and not the clutch slipping!

I'll post the graphs tomorrow for anyone who's curious anyhow :-) They say they'll be keeping it "smooth". This is at Clive Atthowe just out of Norwich.

Thanks for showing your graphs!

What a tastefully modded furby.

VERY clean looking.. I like it...

170bhp?

The image doesn't seem to be loading. I assume though that your post is hinting that 170bhp is difficult to achieve with just a remap?

Works fine for me... and no the graph is for a standard 2.0 petrol......

You should easily see 170bhp.

All i've got is PiperX panel filter and a P Torque generic remap, and I pulled 176.7bhp & 305lbft :)

oh ok.. Would be interesting how different the curve will look like.. Im quite new to this mapping stuff.. So I assume one would want not alot of power around and before 2k (for eco drive) and silly power hike from there onwards, limiting the torque for traction and stretching the power-band out to make it more useful thro the rev-range..?

So maybe a little more technical question would be what things would they might change/increase to do this? or is this the black art area where not alot of people know how to do?

Ok, i'll try not to open the can-o-worms too much but I assume from looking at the map of the ibiza best place to change gear is at ~4000 rpm (peak power)..?

It made 160bhp and 268lb/ft... I'm at work, so I will post the graph later.

Personally I'd be a little disappointed with that but hey it's all relative

My car was custom remapped at Jabba and with just a PD160 intake and green cotton filter it made 177BHP and just under 300 torques

Yeah I am a bit. I did say could you keep it smooth... maybe they had to be conservative?

I did notice the correction factor on the after run was 98.5%, as opposed to the before run which was 99.7%. I'm not sure what that means :-)

Pasty asked me to pop over and cast my eye over this topic..

Those figures are a little low, i'd at least expect 265bhp and closer to the 290-300lb.ft mark but all maps are different, i can only comment for our own.

It should certainly make for a smooth drive though, it shouldn't feel too peaky like that at all...

Some people here were talking about the option of getting the diesel to go better at the top end etc which is exactly how i've mapped my car. If i drive it hard i prefer to use higher rpm, takes load off the dual mass etc.

Here's my curve. As you can see, very peaky at the top end, means it really starts to pull harder past 3000rpm.

PS. Correction factor was probably taking into account air temp and air pressure which fluctuate between runs so nothing to worry about.

It's all about how the car drives on the road though, too many people get caught up on Dyno lottery..

I hope you meant 165bhp ;-) I was thinking it would be more like 170bhp and 290lb/ft to be honest. He did say they had it a bit higher but it was a large peak, and since I asked to have it smooth they adjusted. So maybe that's all it is. It did seem nicer to drive on the road. It didn't feel like it was bottoming out after 3000-3500rpm any more, kept on going to 4000rpm I think (I'll have to give it another quick blast one the way home).

The temperature was different too, so that is probably it :-)

:o

Whoops, 165 :)

Kev

And Jabba Kev's responce is what we would expect from someone who prefers to drives Petrol cars (am i correct Jabba Kev?)

In the sence he like his pull higher up (my fav saying 'Likes to rev the nuts off it')

A lot of people look at BHP when the look at Dynos and remaps, there are so many more varibles to look into.

Yes your car is 177BHP..... but is it at the Fly or the Wheels?

It is just under 300 Tourque....... how do you intend to keep that on the road to use it?

But this opens up a whole world of other questions!

To be honest I quote these figures as they are on the print out but they mean nothing really.

I just know my car feels smoother, is much quicker, and pulls harder for longer than it did in standard form.

And having had a 165BHP peaky generic map on my previous Ibiza sport I appreciate the smoothness and long power band much more than the extra power as i can actually use the gains rather than driving around wheelspin! all the ime

That said when the Beezer was remapped i thought i was the absolute mutts.

Experience makes us wiser i guess.

here are my graphs. nothing like consistency!!
