Newbie Superb problems

Featured Replies

Hello all,

First of all I'd like to point out that I'm completely new to Forums so please bear with me. Owner of a 52 Superb 1.9TDi 130 since November and am pretty chuffed with it so far. I haven't had to do a great deal to it except repair a vacuum pipe that had been worn through by the air intact ducting rubbing on it, which seems to be not too well designed / routed.

I know this is my first post and I will obviously be grateful of any advice guidance received, so here comes the niggles......the car hesitates very occasionally almost like the engine cuts out for a fraction of a second when you lift your foot of the accelerator possibly (can't be certain, happens so infrequently) when reducing speed or changing gear, then it's all back to normal. Thought I might of fixed it when I repaired the vacuum pipe but alas no. The car also idles roughly occasionally at junctions then when you increase the engine speed it clears then settles back down to a rough idle, however a blast up the road and all is back to normal? And finally, just started to notice much black smoke intermittently on start up?

Someone has mentioned EGR valve and also I've been looking into a Turbo cleaning kit but haven't learned enough about either yet.

Many thanks.

The EGR does cause a fair few problems similar to what you mentioned. You can disconnect the vacuum pipe from it and block it with something suitable (I used a screw and a cable tie to hold it in place). Drive the car for a few days and see if the problem persists. If it does just reconnect the EGR. It's an easy way to test it.

I keep meaning to get pictures of it for illustration. If I get chance to tomorrow I'll post a few up.

Try a new air and fuel filter, and put a good inj cleaner in half a tank of fuel before you go spending hard.

Thanks, haven't had a moment to try this out yet, but will give it a go :)

Thanks, will price up the parts. The air filter looks like a bit of a pain in the ***s to change, although I haven't investigated it too much yet. And is the fuel filter reasonably straight forward? I certainly will give the ole injection cleaner a go though

Ok, I'll run you through it mate

Air Filter, Take off the cover, undo 3 screws on the landing panel at the front of the car and remove the air flow pipe and snorkel from the airbox complete if you can.

Next undo the bolt in the wing holding the airbox, and then unclip the clips around the centre split line.

You should now be able to remove the old filter and hoover the debris up.

Derv Filter, pay attention here cos there's a potential slip up if you ain't carefull.

Remove engine cover, Pull the C clip out on the top of the housing, then undo both fuel lines, next slacken the holder and remove the filter *****important***** remove the platic collar from the filter body and refit to new filter, pop the filter back in and tighten up the bracket, fill with fresh derv and put the lines back on, you don't have to fill it, but I think it's good practice to do so.

Thanks very much Supurbia for your advice.

Will have a go and post my comments here. Excuse my ignorance, but when you say fill with Derv, I presume I will need to go get some from the local garage or can you prime it through the new filter insitu? and bleed it. Is it easy to fill it as you mention that it is best practice to do so?
