Couple of questions about the Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just bought a brand new Octavia 2.0 TDI here in Australia. It currently has the Bolero unit installed, but i find the interface clunky. The main reason I did not get it with the Columbus preinstalled, is the ridiculous price they charge for it down here. Anyway, am considering buying one from ebay, but all the ones from overseas come with EU maps. I dont know a lot of skoda owners here, but can probably get a copy of a map dvd from a current model VW Golf that has an RNS510. Will this map dvd work?

Is the interface on the Columbus as clunky as the one on the Bolero?

Are there any other head units that will also interface with things like the climate control etc that i could be looking at?

Thanks,

raph

I don't know about other head units, but the Columbus touch screen interface is essentially the same as the Bolero, although I understand it handles music files on an SD card much more effectively

I believe the VW maps will work but am happy to bow to others experiences on this one

VW Maps will work just fine.

It's the same mapping only thing will be that the Skoda Centre POI may become VW one's but i don't really see that as a problem

Hi Raphec

I too am in Australia and have just bought a Octavia Scout. It has the Bolero unit, but I'm wanting to install a Sat Nav unit.

I was looking at the aftermarket units, but have some questions you might be wondering about as well.

Will the aftermarket RNS510 units advertised as "Golf V" compatible work in the Scout? Some say they suit Golf VI and the CAN Bus is different.

There are a lot of Euro units claiming to be Genuine RNS510, for VW Golf. Will they work, and do I need a VAG-COM to change anything?

Cheers

Allan
