Troll, what Troll?

:feedtrol:

faster(top end and acceleration), more comfortable, smoother, IMO(remember, MY OPINION) better looking, more room inside, more tunable and not a diesel

sorry, i was talking fadia vrs vs octavia vrs and 4x4

Why are you intent on causing arguments. We know you dont like the Fabia, so why not change the record eh?

The Fabia and Octavia are different cars for different markets. I do not need a car as big as an Octavia, as it would be a total waste for just one person to travel in such a large car. I also do not wish to pay for group 16 insurance or whatever it is for an Octavia. Nor do I wish to get into the low 20's MPG all the time (and take it from me, I would have it into this range daily). I do not need a car that can go 150 mph, in fact I dont even need one that can do 130 mph so top end performance is of no relevance at all to me - I dont wish to risk my licence. The Fabia is much more suitable for my needs, smaller, nimbler, much more economical, very little in it performance wise within the legal limits and for a fair while after that too. Much cheaper to insure, and almost certainly as good/better round bends and no doubt being smaller/less refined its almost certain to feel quicker too within its limits thanks to its shove. Considering all of this, the Fabia IS a better car for ME.

But I dont even know why I gave a sensible answer since that clearly was not the point of the thread.

I find it sad that the Fabia gets such a hard time from quite a few members on this board quite honestly. I see more praise about the Fabia at times on rival car forums TBH.

Also, the Octavia is based on the Golf IV platform, which is not exactly known for its dynamic ability and is an older design than the Fabia. Make of that what you will.

But I dont even know why I gave a sensible answer since that clearly was not the point of the thread.

I did not ask for an opinion on vRS v vRS, but the cars in general, so your comments on fuel economy etc are not valid. An Octy TDi/SDi are also very economical. I want to know which model people feel are over all the better package, ie value, practicality, compared with other cars of similar size etc. That is the only reason for my post despite what some think.

This sure is one hungry little critter.....

The Fabia stands up pretty well against other superminis, particularly if you're looking for a roomy cabin, 5 doors and decent build quality. It's also reasonably priced.

The old Octavia is starting to look a little dated, but then the design has been around for quite a while. I remember really liking it when I first drove one about 7 years ago, although the trim was a bit flimsy back then. Unfortunately, it's in a very tough market: Ford and Vauxhall discount heavily, and the Renault 2.2 diesel is an awesome lump (used in the Laguna and Primera). I guess it's main appeal is value, space and equipment. But if I was looking for a car of that size, I'd be shopping for an Accord, or a Mazda 6. However, the new Octavia looks a lot fresher: I'd consider one next, perhaps, if they stick a decently quick diesel in the range for a reasonable price.

The Octavia vRS does stand out in the market though, just as the Fabia vRS does. And I'm not talking cosmetically here: both offer a lot of performance for the money.

believe me i like the fabia but i just prefer the octavia, which is why i bought one. i like having the room and being able to blend into a crowd with my ambulance then once fettled i will be able to blast away. i know i get lower mpg but lets be honest who would buy a 4 wheel drive petrol turbo then moan about the fuel economy. my octavia is actually better on fuel than i expected for the way i want to drive i sometimes, i also haven't got it stuck yet in either snow, ice or mud. i've been stuck all of the above in previous cars, infact the night before i picked the octavia up i very nearly got stuck in ice and took an age to get out in the focus, octavia however just drove about very gracefully with no arguements unless i purposely provoked it in the ice/snow

Crikey, I live north of Oxford, and I've never got a car stuck in snow. (Or in mud, for that matter, but then I tend to stay on the road.) And I've never owned a 4x4...

in january this year i got stuck for a while in the snow/ice. also been caught out a couple times in mud at various places. my 4x4 so far has coped with it but i'm sure the mud/ice will win one day

btw heebee, where are you?? i'm in central oxford myself, less than 3 miles from carfax

In which case, the choice is sure to be dictated by the need or not for a larger car.

Ultimately though, its nigh on impossible to say [which car is better overall] because these things are very subjective.

Oh just say the Octy is better and keep William happy..... ;)

does it matter which is best!! Both for different markets! Now if you asked which is better out of Golf/Octi or polo/fabia then you might have a point.

Leave the hornets nest alone!!!

or to p*ss him off all say the fabia is better!

I'm in Bedford, for my sins.

It's OK, but the chavs seem to be taking over. I think there may be a chav factory, somewhere between Bedford and Milton Keynes.
