Fabia vRS to Perodua Kelisa

Featured Replies

We have a local Perodua garage and these cars are a regular site on Hemel's roads. Somehow they seem to be a continuation of Skodas of old...

My Fabia vRS is pacey and quite luxurious but I wonder if I had a little Kelisa instead if it would give more driving fun? Working the little engine, fun trips to the coast, surprising the big boys and nipping here and there. Top speed 88 so the fast lane should be possible and it has a 5 speed gearbox. 0-60 in around 15 seconds puts ot in Rapid 136 territory and that was quick I felt. Kelisa on a track day would certainly be different.

It may be madness I know, but if I had one, waxed it up to a good shine and kept it nice, perhaps it would be real fun.

So, have you tried one and are they fun?

What have you been smoking? And can I have some please emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

they are hideous cars absolutely awful, we was supplied with 1 as a courtesy car when mrs smashed her car up, i've never driven anyhing so awful,

It sounds a bit like my friend's Daewoo Matiz, which she said was fine around town, okish on the M/way as long as you didn't want to do over 70 indicated, but hopeless for getting out of her new work since she'd bought the car because you were starting from rest at the bottom of a long hill on NSL single carriageway.

NO!

nothing more.

It was the Matiz that tuned me in to small cheap cars. I ran a Matiz for a few days and with a heavy dose of the right foot that 800cc car went in a way that you never normally see them go. The heater was powerful and fast, it had air-con and I had some fun trips. Seemingly you never see city cars at any speed but up to 70 it was as good as the rest (after 70 the engine was loud).

Sublime to Ridiculous - They're actually old Daihatsus built in Malaya.

Very funny you should make that statement.. The Garage I bought my 1st Fabia from was EX-Skoda.. it had recently changed into a Perodua Dealer and was just getting rid of the last of the used Skoda Stock!

On questioning the garage owner I was told "Skoda aren't the same company since VW took over.. Much prefer Perodua" So you might be more on the money with that observation that you thought!

As For the Cars them selves... Um, No.

They maybe fun but I can see the lower rent interior starting to loose it's charm as the winter creeps in and you get used to / bored of it. One of the things I love about the Fabia is it's "Budget" interior was made subtle & solid so it feels much classier than the Ibiza's for example.

I've long been a convert to the fun derived from driving "incompetent" cars, and the Kelisa certainly ticks most boxes in terms of requiring plenty of involvement and effort to make it do what you want it to.

That said, I'd rather get an Aygo than a Kelisa.

If you're after a city car to thrash around, I can recommend the Peugeot 107. I had one this week as a hire car seeing as mine is off the road. 68bhp, 0-60 in quite a while and I loved it! It sat quite happily on the motorway and kept up with the traffic. I did 200 miles in it on the day and to be honest, couldn't fault it in any way. Yes it's cheap, slowish and I looked a complete tool driving it, but I didn't care.

It wasn't trying to be anything other than itself and took a hell of a lot of abuse on the day. It was great for handbrake turns - in the style of the Top Gear football match - performed amazing wheelspins if given enough beans, flew over speed bumps at full speed, out manouvered some bigger more poweful cars on the twisty roads around Emley moor, and it returned over 50mpg too!

It took me back to the days of driving my Fiat Panda (the old one) and how much enjoyment there is in hustling a tiny car down busy roads. Every little victory felt great as it was the two of you against the world. The vRS and it's 200 plus horsepower removes me from so much of the experience that the majority of cars on the road are all easy prey. The 107 was quite refreshing and cheered me up for the day.

I know what you're getting at Mr Tailhappy and if I had to own a second car for nipping about in, the 107 get my vote.

I'm shaw Clarkson bought one for one of his DVD's, drove it off the forecourt across the road and smashed it up with a lump hammer in full view of the sales guy :giggle:
