My 1.4 estate started around 42mpg and now with 24000 on the clock is regularly doing 48 mpg ( calculated at the pump ) most of my 60 mile commute is dual carriageway though and I drive fairly sedately. Weight does not seem a factor as she still does 48 mpg fully loaded, luggage and all.

I'm v happy with these figures, although I really will keep trying for 50 mpg!

I have the 195 tyres at about 37psi just for reference.

Reading the last post in this thread, I wonder if I should look at a 1.4 TSI mk2 to replace my 1.9 tdi, or stick with the trusty old diesels.  It seems once run in, the 1.4TSI would be similar to run given the current 25p/ litre cost difference between petrol and diesel.
