That'll teach me....

Featured Replies

Yesterday I was telling a couple of people on the site where I was working about how reliable my Octy had been.

This morning the clutch pedal felt a bit lower than normal but I didn't think much of it until 2 miles down the road when it sunk completely and I couldn't select any gears.

The nice man from the AA towed me to my local dealer for them to sort it out and has also arranged a smart car for 24 hours for me. The smart is actually quite good fun to drive and I can see why people like them. If only it wasn't bright yellow with AA logos all over it

Some people pay good money to get ones that look like that!

Rob.

Clutche pedals do not seem a strong point on the Octy. Both the 1.6LX (which is going on Saturday) and the vRS have given me trouble with the pedal not returning after use.

I've seen a few other people reporting problems with the clutch in the past on cold mornings so I wasn't completely surprised to be honest

Cold morning clutch sinkage is the good old Master Cylinder....

Take to dealer.

Dealer Fixes.

Dealer asks for signature on paper and charges you zilch...if under warranty :)

Nice these Skoda people, aren't they ? :)

Well it was the master cylinder in my vRS, fixed under warranty, but was actually low clutch fluid level in the out of warranty LX, even though to me the driver the symptoms were identicle. In both cases the clutch pedal seemed to come up very high after repair, untill I got used to it.

It's 18 months and 37k miles old , so warranty isn't going to be an issue.

Just a bit of a pain when I was supposed to be on site in Wales 20 minutes ago :)

Oh , and I'm going to get no end of ****taking when I'm next in the office.

I'll phone the garage early afternoon and see when it's likely to be fixed as I only have the Smart for 24 hours and will need to borrow another car from work if it's going to be longer.

Neither clutch pedal job on my cars took long. The LX took about 5 minutes to fix, and the vRS was dropped in at 9am and was ready for collection at 12.30.

Garage had to order the part in for mine as they hadn't changed a master cyl for a while...

Booked in 9am saturday.

Back home drinking tea before 10-30am.

Not bad at all

Similar thing happened recently on my Fabia and the car was dropped into the dealer on Monday at 5:25pm (lucky I got it there before they shut and got them to make time to fix it ;)), assessed it and ordered the parts on Tuesday and was ready for collection Wednesday lunch time. I was only charged for one hour's labour to strip down pedal assembly, fit new pedal, master cylinder, etc and fill with clutch fluid and test the system which I was very pleased about as the car is well out of warranty :D

Thats when they were expecting you though.

They said they were already fully booked and had two people off sick when I dropped the car off , so I'm not convinced that they will actually have the time to do anything to it today

if my clutch dies before i get rid of the Octy now, Alex, I'll never forgive you........... :D

Ah the wonderful service that we are offered. Can the AA really only supply a car for 24hrs? When I crashed my 97 Felicia GLi while it was still covered by the AA membership the AA hired a Ford Focus for me from Belfast City Airport which I had the use of untill I was supplied with a courtesy car by the insurance company while my car was fixed. I had the Focus about 3 days or so.

thats coz it was an insurance job, not a breakdown.

Given that the car for 24 hours is a free addon to my existing policy I'm not going to complain , and if my car won't be done by tomorrow then I can borrow the pool car [1] from work F.O.C. so I'm not going to be without transport. I could have paid extra to hire the Smart for longer if I'd needed it.

[2] Rather handy as I have a load of rubbish to take to the tip.

You are evil, although I must confess that I have used the opportunity of having courtesy cars for shifting rubbish, that I did not fancy putting in my own car to the dump in the past

My clutch is on its way out too 45k miles on the clock. I haven't had the clutch pedal feel or behave any differently, but gear selection when stopped is a chore, especially reverse.

Two months out of warranty also.... :(
