Hi i have recently bought a 2004 seat ibiza sport (pd130)

Toying with the idea of a remap but want to know if my clutch will handle it. have read that you can expect about 165 bhp from a remap. With my engine at 115K i have a feeling my clutch wont handle the extra power for long.

So....

Looking on jabbasport website their clutches for a pd130 start at about £600!!! for a sachs all singing all dancing one.

I just checked ECP and they have a seat ibiza pd160 sachs clutch for about £150

Would that be a suitable/reliable replacement or would i be back to square one a few months later?

Its essentially a VRS so what have the skoda Labia boys been doing to your cars?

If all your doing is a remap and nothing else, then just replace the standard clutch with another when it goes. Its not the bhp, but the torque that kiss the clutch, but as long as you get a decent map and drive it properly, then a standard clutch is more than enough.

From experience, mine was slipping with a remap giving around 300 ft.lb torque. You can probably just about get there with a remap. The slipping I was getting was when in 6th on the motorway then wanting to accelerate quickly. In 4th and below, it never slipped or I never noticed it even when booting.

The other major difference in cost between ECP price and the Jabba one is Jabba is probably an all-inclusive fitting price.

Be aware that in the Fabia, there's no real room to work with - it's a relatively big engine under a small bonnet. I had a performance specialist fit mine and he felt more comfortable partly hoisting the engine out of the car as you need to remove the gearbox to get to the clutch. So it all takes time (he took 4 hours to fit new clutch and pressure plate).

I went for the Sachs organic clutch and changed the pressure plate at the same time. It's now quite a hard pedal and fairly "digital" in the bite, but still perfectly usable around town, just takes some getting used to.

But as Matt said, if you're only going for a conservative remap where the torque's not that high, you might well be fine with a standard one. However, unless you fit yourself or have friendly mechanics, the labour isn't that cheap due to the time required.

I'd say if you're decided on the remap, get that done and see how it goes. If you don't get slippage when in 6th, then you're OK and if the clutch then starts failing in 6 months, you can replace with a standard one. :)

True. Their price doesn't include fitting but does include the pressure plate (and bearing). The pressure plate costs more than the clutch, or at least it did when I bought mine several years ago: clutch was £236 and pressure plate was £285!

Can anyone tell me if the 240mm clutch from an R32 golf fits the ASZ VRS engine?

I have a couple of spares from R32 engines I broke and it could be a cheap spare for me if it fits.
