Virgin V+ nightmare

Featured Replies

Anyone else having/had problems with the recently updated smartcards for Virgin+tv services?

I installed ours 2 weeks ago having received dire warnings of doom from Virgin if the new card wasn't installed in the V+ box. Did so immediately and all was well until 3 days ago when the box constantly tried to reboot itself and there was a loss of all V+ additional services eg viewing recorded programmes.

Called Customer Services on Monday and situation couldn't be resolved but they promised a member of the Support Team would be call back. Guy has just phoned and he had to remotely delete 60 hours of unviewed programmes on the V+ box I had been storing for future viewing! emoticon-0106-crying.gif

A quick Google suggests that we're not alone with these problems and the loss of all recorded programmes.

If you have V+ and a new smartcard, be warned!

My dad had no end of problems with it. Had 2 new boxes, recorded programmes wiped, 3 new cards etc.

It got so bad in the end that he has switched to Sky HD.

He couldn't fault the customer service though

I have my V+ coming 1st June:o

Mine has been behaving a little strangely recently but I haven't had a new card.

It seems to think its recording Great British Menu from the 6th May constantly. I also caught it trying to record 3 programmes at the same time. Bless it is an old box. :giggle:

The customer service from Virgin is Fantastic, there product could do with a few ajustments.

- The box response is a little slow (i have had to wait 5 min before for it to reg iv pressed a button)

- The HDD is really noisy! (cheep drive)

Sky customer service on the other hand................

Dont panic think of all those extra HD channels you get for the price of just the + (unlike sky where you have to pay more)

You make it sound like a child?!!? :wonder:

I've got the original V+ box and it is a little slow on changing channels at times and loses the plot every so often but it is like everything else... Switch off, switch on :giggle:

My mate has just had V+ fitted and he got a new Samsung box :swear: I might have to "loosen" something ;)

Its far worse than that. :giggle:

It is an original TV Drive so I can't complain. I have seen the new Samsung box and in comparison it is really fast.

really, wonder how long we have had ours?!?! LOL

Any sparkies round here? whats a good warranty killer?

That was gonna be my next question lol

It looks a nice box and I meant to ask my mate how he's getting on with it

I was thinking dry joint :giggle:

They'll send someone out, they wont check it, just replace it.... Maybe

yeah i was slightly annoyed, i had mine installed around the time they released the new samsung boxes, unfortunately in my area they were still off loading the old boxes so i ended up with one of the old ones

I installed my new smart card about 6 weeks ago and it seems to be fine. I sometimes get a weird thing when you turn the box on and it freezes, starts a reset and tells me "Your Virgin digital services will resume shortly". It takes about 5 minutes but I never lose anything.

The only thing I've noticed is that a couple of recordings have pixelated moments like an old aerial digi box might have, which seems very odd for a cable service :S

One other thing I have read about is that low-energy light bulbs, particularly Philips for some reason, can interfere with stuff. Apparently they work on the same frequency as the V+ remote so it seems like there's a ghost in the machine, flipping channels and stuff. That could be why mine freezes as I've got a lamp right next to the TV

Anyone else get the pixelated thing or the start-up freeze?

Yes.... me! As stated in 1st post of this thread, probs started last Sunday having installed the new smartcard 2 weeks before. Customer Support guy deleted my 60 hours of unviewed films etc when he reformatted the HD remotely on Wednesday. All should have been well....... so recorded 6 hours worth of programmes on Thursday and Friday to be viewed last night. Guess what? They all are freezing and/or being pixelated emoticon-0149-no.gif

Man with van coming Tuesday. Wonder if I'll get one of these new boxes some peeps have mentioned?

And the update is: man with van arrived on time and clutching shiny new Samsung box! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

All working - just got to reprogramme in all the series I want to see. Samsung box is whizzing away much faster than the old one. All is well.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Haven;t got a V+ box but have been having problems with pixelated pictures, usually on iplayer nad usually needing the programme to be restarted a few times...

Yep! Faulty label stuck on old one and taken away. Didn't test the old one although the guy seemed to have had details of the fault from Customer Services. Either that or I looked totally honest!!emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
