problems playing MP3 discs

Featured Replies

Have finally got round to recording some MP3 discs and am having some problems:

* Disc error and ejects disc

* Switches to other CD/Radio

* Traffic ammouncement interupts disc, at end of traffic announcement I can get either of the avove although it was playing before the announcement

or just plays. i.e. can eject disc with disc error, push it back in and it plays! - this happens with several discs.

Is this a disc issue or a radio issue - my gut feeling is a radio issue.

2008 Elegance with MP3 radio and 6 disc boot changer.

Presume then that it is a Stream MP3 head unit with single slot to play discs (both MP3 and regular CD audio).

Does it play regular CD audio discs without similar problem, and have you tried a different brand of blank CD to burn your MP3 discs?

Try a good brand of cd.. "Verbatim" or similar

What speed did you burn the disc at?

Try 10 x or 16x max., I find this can help when burning MP3 cd's

Have you tried the disc in another MP3 Disc Player?

This will give you the answer if it is the disc that is at fault or not.

Discs are Memorex, plays fine in the wife's Fiesta and in the PC.

Trying the disc in another player is not the answer.

I had a Nissan Primera ome years ago and i gave up on trying to find a disc that I could record to and play in it.

Every single one skipped in in.

IUt was made by Clarion

I still suggest you try a Verbatim and a slowish burn speed maybe 10 speed.

My Stream MP3 acts up something similar to this, so i got fed up trying and ordered one of these

My link9

now just waiting for it to arrive, and hook up an 80 Gb drive i had lying around

How does that work exactly? I was assuming it went into the CD changer slot but it shows the display with mp3 information so I'm guessing not, plus I can't see the install being as simple as they claim as surely the trim has to come away and the stereo out to get it fitted to the back? Ah, I'm seeing it needs maxidot which I don't have so I guess that's out the window entirely :(

I've had no problems with my Stream head unit for mp3 CDs, I have some cheapo CD-RWs which I've burnt the albums onto which the HU has picked up correctly and played back with no issue.

The Gateway does use the cd changer port, just plugs in, and put the box in the glovebox...... i hope

this one is CAN based thats how the display works with maxidot same as the radio does if you have maxidot, i dont think it needs maxidot to work though just means you will only see the info on the radio screen

also the radio takes less than 10 mins to remove, the trim just unclips from above the ashtray and up along the sides, 4 little covers over the srews and then its out, i had the radio out alreadt to fit a parrot handsfree

The auction specifically mentions that non-Maxidot Skodas won't work with it "Volkswagen/Skoda vehicles that do not have the Highline Multifunction Computer or Maxidot cluster display", I'd be interested to know if anyone has this without Maxidot as I realise the auction may not be correct.

Ok quick update, the gateway 300 arrived yesterday so think i, why not do it now thinking it would be quick job

so the gateway came with what looks like a VW break in loom, which according to the Dension website is fine for all the skoda radio's EXCEPT the stream MP3 HU, so now i am contemplating either chopping up this lead or get the other one, it plugs in ok but does some funny things and sounds terrible

Anyway will update once i get it working
