First off, today I thought Id change back to the Std air box. I have removed the funnel just incase,

I am gonna get a panel filter for it too as I am using the std filter at the mo seen as it was changed for service then I removed the box again soon as I got home.

I must say that it is A LOT quieter now. I didnt think it madde that much diff buit you cant hear the DV now and there is no real growel. only the nice zorst note.

I also cleaned out the bay seen as a lot of stuff was out and OMG it is nice. No pics tho at the mo. when I get roiund to detailing the car Ill post some but I want a front end respray first really.

Back on to the title.

I have noticed tho that there is a fair bit of crap/ oily dirt in the pipe. its been on for years tho but still its worrying. and thats with a PX 279 filter sealed at the top by fabric tape. even with a good filter on there it is still lettin throu some crap and with the milotec grills I dont think its helped much.

everyone who has them on might want to look at theirs.

I am undecided as to what to do now, might ge another filter? I am going to be painting the pipe black tho and might put it back on? even if only for the summer then go aback to the box?

cheers

billy

ps

I might have a cat back for sale soon if anyone is interested? I am unsure as to what ill be doing with it, its either leave it on or get it off and get it sold and have PRO Speed make me up another? want a bit more noise.......

Thats a bit worrying about the CAI Billy :(

They recommend taking them off every now and again to clean and re-oil the filter (well, K&N do) so I guess members with CAIs who are re-oiling theirs would do well to check the pipework at the same time. All you'd need is a nice big bug or seed getting in there and hitting the turbo... :o

I've stuck with the standard airbox on mine with a Green panel filter, I've found in the past that CAIs give a nice noise but you seem to lose a bit of torque compared to a panel filter and airbox. On a related note does anyone know if the larger cold air feed pipe from the PD160 diesels would fit and be larger than the 1.8T one on the VRS?

I read once that the R32 is bigger.

Hmmmm

a flexible 3"- 4" pipe routed from the airbox to the bumper which is directly into airflow has been recommended to me, so i may de fin my airbox when i get home and put decent panel filter in just to try it

I looked at getting the R32 snorkel but ended up going ghetto with some plastic flexi pipe and the dremel :D Had to use the stuff we run cat5 in when going under porta cabins but as it comes with the glands to be able to connect into things it was ideal. About 1.5" diameter and I think I did three or four from the flat bit at the bottom of the airbox and routed them every which way to get to almost the same area as the existing trumpet (couldn't go the same route that the R32 one uses as that space is where the LPG ECU lives :()

After driving the car to work today Ive noticed that its not as responsive/ quick but that could be the fact its std filter and pipe in.

I am gonna check it tomoz morning to see if its sucked the filter and messed it up as iirc I read one member had the std filter sucked up and out of shape?

I am thinking of making another hole in the box in the side and put in a cold air feed down the sim route as the CAI pipe goes and not facing it fwd tho so as to reduce the intake of rubbish. also going in from the side so the bigger stuff goes into the bottom and not straight into the filter.

Thanks guys for the PM on the Cat Back. I was not expectin that much interest so soon.

Its a Longlife system, its 2.5" throu the center silencer and goes over the rear beam and into the back box then unfortunatly its a 2.25" tail pipe so Ive been told. might be gettin it sorted to 2.5" but not sure yet. as for price I am unsure as yet as I not sure what its gonna be (2.5 or 2.25)

just wanted to see if there was any interest.

CAI not for sale lol, yet ne way. I love the noise. plus its only the ebay one.

Cheers

Billy
