Went to fit coilovers last night...

No joy unfortunately!

I used the Fabia-vRS.com website for a rough guide and when me and a mechanic mate took it apart using the tools needed list, half were wrong or not listed! Good job we took all his tools with us!

However, the hard part was getting the nut off the top to release the top mount etc - this wasn't happening as didn't have a 21mm open ended spanner and an allen :(

So after an hour of taking it apart we put it back together and ordered a pizza!

Not happy, was hoping to get it done and tracking sorted this weekend, now hoping his work will let us borrow the workshop/ramp on monday!

yea i tried this with my Smart car, with no luck, that nut it done up tight!

best bet is Air Tools for that nut......

Exactly my thoughts, use the mates workshop and all the air tools, be done in two hours ish hopefully!

I did mine on the driveway in about 3 hours. Its easy once the old ones are off!! lol

i've found in the past that sometimes the nut is very difficult to get off, last resort is to clamp a pair of molegrips around the damper piston near the top to hold it whilst using an impact gun on it... if you are really unlucky the top of the thread breaks off the damper

That guide was written to swap the whole strut. Why would need to remove the top bearing to do this if your swapping straight to coilovers?

You need to remove the top mount/strut to fit coilovers.

Mine were new recently so no point buying new ones and wasting money.
