Fabia alarm problems

Featured Replies

We have an 2001 plate Fabia and are having problems with the alarm. It's always been a bit of a pain, any nearby VW owner bipping their alarm will set off ours but the last few days it's going off every 2-3 minutes when the car is paked up (including overnight, we are NOT popular with our neighbours) so the car is now left with a key in the ignition and unlocked at all times. My son is due to take the car on his work placement next week and he's camping away from home so having an alarm go off every few minutes is going to be a real issue as the car is going to need to be secure while parked.

Can anyone help with some solutions we might be able to try until we can get the alarm disabled?

Thank you

go to an auto electrician and ask him to disable it, im sure it wont cos too much, or he might know a quick fix...

in the meantime things for you to check:

make sure all your doors, boot and bonnet are closing properly...

the bonnent might have a switch that is supposed to be pressed in when the bonnet is closed , this switch could be broken., mis- aligned, or have a loose connection...

does the car have ultrasonic sensors inside the cabin, these might be out of alignment, or dirty or obstructed....

are you leaving any current drawing devices powered on in the car when you leave it ? like phone charges, satnav etc, even interior light left on ?

is your alarm activated when you turn the key to lock your door or by key fob and linked to the central locking?

if its just by the keyfob then dont use it just use the key to lock the doors

The alarm alarms itself if we press the fob or if we lock the door just using the key. It doesn't seem to matter which method of locking we try the alarm goes off at will.

I have no idea if we have sensors-off to read the manual to see if I can work it out.

Nothing drawing power is left in the car, interior lights are off.

Catches all appear to be fine.

Don't know about the bonnet catch, I will get my husband to look he's even less car savvy than me though.

It's booked into the auto electrians next weekend. Someone had looked at it before for us and the problem seemed to be sorted but the recent wram weather seems to have restarted it (mind you it's never been this bad).

i have just read there on another forum on a subject of alarms going off at night etc

they where commenting on the bonnet switch.. what was happening was the catch was just about being pressed in when the bonnet was closed, the in the temp drop during the night or the morning sun was making the bonnet contract or swell in the heat/ cold and this was enuff to break the contact of the switch....

also another point...

after the alarm has gone off and you reset it ... do the indicators flash?

if so try and count the flashes, usually this can be an indication of how the alarm has been triggered

example only:

2 flash= shock sensor activated

5= boot forced

7= bonnet forced

etc

We took it for new tyres today and we were talking to the guy who owned the motorshop that did the tyres. He ran the diagnostics computer on it for us and it's the sensor in the interior light that's gone. The problem's not fixed but at least w eknow what it is, he's gong to call us with a price on Monday. He cleared two other faults that showed and didn't charge us a penny for his efforts (we'd already paid for teh tyres on line).

When we set the alarm the indicators always flash twice. It makes sense about the bonnet catch sensor, we'll keep an eye on that too. Thanks.

Remove the fuse, or lock the car using the key in the door, rather than remotely (then key it again quickly) to disable the alarm, whislt still keeping the doors locked. :thumbup: Door should be locked - but the LED should go out. Easy way to test is to lock it with a window down, then lock it twice. If you try and open the door using the interior door lever it should open, whereas only locking it once won't. If that makes sense.

Or, if it's like my Polo, there'll be a switch in the b-pillar to disable the interior sensors.

We've tried locking the door with the keythe LEDs still flash and the alarm will go off at some point . I've been reading up on the problem on here and it seems to be fuse 60, we're having problems locating the position of fuse 60 as our handbook seems to have developed legs and walked (also known as 18yr old driver syndrome. Never lend your car to your kids)
