Octavia Fuel Cap

Featured Replies

Just picked up my octavia 2.0 tdi today. However I cannot find any buttons etc or anything in the owners manual about how to open the fuel filler flap? Felt like an idiot when I had to drive away from the pump unable to put any in!

Push the cover at the left end i.e in the end towards back of the car, once the car is unlocked.

It's a big step to take but !!!!!!!!!

When all else fails just omit defeat and read the instruction book

page 222, figs.205/206.

For the sake of good order and completeness please tell me what the "Fuel Cover " looks like and

what side of the car it's on. I can't find any record of this in the FM.

Cases are on record where owners are known to have opened the back door and

filled the rear compartment with the best 4 star.

The dealer should have run through things like that with you when you collected the car.

As CEPi said, push the flap to release - but only when the car is unlocked. Personally I'd rather see a locking fuel cap, but that's just me.

Don't worry, its the only car I've ever owned that I had to revert to the owner's manual just to find out how to lift the windscreen wipers! Never knew something so simple could be so technical - good for security though.

Now there's a good question, how is it done to save me raking through the manual?

I did manage to find the secret for releasing the fuel cap myself as I'd decided to find it before pulling up at the petrol station and looking like an idiot hunting for the release.

When you switch off the car, flick the windscreen wiper stalk down and the wipers will park vertically allowing you to clean behind them.

I didn't!! :notme::D

I had an embarrassing 10 mins at a petrol station before I figured it out...

Trouble is they keep changing things. My previous FSi had a release button on the dash IIRC. First stop with new TSi and of course I'm looking for the button!

Perhaps the dealer should sit you down in the office and demand you pass a 50 question test before you are allowed out.

(I wonder what the 50 questions would be:

1/ How come you can afford this car?

2/............................. etc )

Having done that before I've learnt from my experience so this time I had a good look in the manual first when I could see a release behind the gear stick (where my Seat Toledo had it) nor under the b-frame I think it was on the mk1 Octavia? The funny thing is it's pretty simple to just press the fuel cap but never thought of trying it as I've never had a car that works that way before. It's funny how the core controls of the car are so standardised but nothing else is although at least if driving VAG cars they're mostly similar, getting into the new Octavia felt quite familiar and was handy when driving the works van which was a VW. It could be a lot worse as my company had a Peugeot 806 for a while and it felt like the designers had intentionally and randomly rearranged all the common controls to put them in somewhere you wouldn't expect them to be for no particular reason aside from being different. The handbrake was on the front right rather than the middle left, when you went to open the door there were fan controls as the door controls were in the middle ceiling?!
