Mk I Octavia Sunroof problem

Featured Replies

My sunroof has thrown a wobbler just when you need it the most. The problem is that it opens OK but when you try to close it again it gets most of the way to closing then goes into reverse and opens up again. The only way to get it to close is to pull on it as it gets to the point where it goes into reverse but I suspect that this won't do the motor any good. Anyone any idea what may be causing this?

Try this - lock the car with the key in the lock and hold it locked for about ten seconds. If any of the windows / sunroof are open it will close them completely then take a few seconds to remember the closed positions of everything. Then unlock the car and try opening and closing the sunroof again.

Cheers for that. I'll give it a try tonight and let you know how it goes.

I had this on a different car. The motor reverses because it senses an obstruction, such as child's fingers in the gap.

The cause was lack of lubrication on the guide rail plus a small twig in there.

Cleaning and lubrication fixed it permanently.

Take a look and see if yours is the same.

Sorted thanks guys. Your dignosis was correct pik pilot, in that it was an obstruction causing the problem. It turned out to be one of the plastic guides that sit on either side of the rail which had popped out. There is a small black tab which seems to locate into the metalwork and this had come adrift. I managed to relocate it and with a bit of grease on the rails it now closes smoothly. :)
