DAB In a Fabia

Featured Replies

Is there an addon for the skoda head units to allow you to receive dab? I see it was an option on the polo but not the fabia. I'm trying to avoid one of these stick on the window jobbie or changing the head unit. Any ideas?

Hello,

I am a fan of BBC 7 and found that by buying a PURE Highway radio it is an easy way of getting DAB broadcasts in the Fabia. The Highway sits easily out of the way in the top glovebox. The stick on aerial is rubbish but I found the magnetic roof one excellent I think it was £20. The Highway picks up the DAB signal, converts it to FM so the standard DANCE radio can pick it up. If you want to change DAB stations you do need to open the glove box and mess around. I think this is better than having it stuck on the windscreen like a satnav. You will need an extension from the cigarette lighter to the tray in front of the gear level.

I got the whole thing running in a hour. The hardest part was hiding the wire from the aerial stuck on the roof, behind the rubber door seal trim then into the glove box. DAB radio/cd players seem to be a couple of hundred at least and the aerials can be £50. Using the pure you still use the standard radio/cd unit. When it is picking up the DAB fm signal it shows PURE on the screen where the station name is usually displayed.

I bought the unit, aerial, and cigarette lighter extension socket off of the sellers on Amazon. I think the whole lot was £80-£90. I love it.

DAB reception is not always as good as FM.

There is the chance that DAB radio may change its frequency? so spending a couple of hundred on a DAB radio/cd unit might be a waste.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply john. Its just annoying that dab was an option on the VW but not the skoda but i guess vw have to keep a few things for themselves.

I fitted a Pure Highway unit underneath the radio console. I removed the 'sucker' from the screen mount and used an M6 Allen bolt to fasten the mount underneath the radio console. You can then adjust the swan neck so that the Pure Highway itself sits nicely in view below the radio - easy to see the display and change channel etc. It all looks very neat and the wires tuck up behind the radio console out of sight - not quite OEM looking, but not too far off!
