Gendan VAGScanner - Views please

Featured Replies

Hi there,

(Forgive the cross posting but nobody responded when I posted this in the diagnostics forum.)

I saw an advert in Autocar for a Gendan diagnostic code reader:

http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_GDVAG.html

Is it any good? I don't want to do anything advanced like changing the engine management settings and so on; all I want is to be able to understand and do something about codes which may appear on the display. At £39.95, is it worth the money for this sort of thing?

Importantly, would it fit my car? It says it will fit all 1996 to 2009 (the website says 1996 to 2007) Skodas with a 16-pin socket. Mine's a 2006 Octavia 1.9 TDi PD Estate, but I have no idea how many pins the socket has and I have no idea where to find it! All help gratefully received.

Thanks,

scandalxk

Yes, looks as though it will work with yours. It claims to support the older protocol and CAN for newer cars. You already know the limitations and only want to read DTCs, so it seems perfect for you.

Yup. Will be fine. Gendan are a great company to deal with by the way.

OK, thanks for that...any idea where I find the socket on my car?

On the very underside of the dash, above the throttle pedal.

I need to ask the same question for a Mk2 '06 vRS Octavia...

Any idea what extra you get in this one ?
